Hi Everyone,

I went out on my front porch to check on my flowers doing some dead heading of some that had bloomed and now dried. I then proceeded to check on a few yellow squash seeds that I had planted last week in an ice tray to see if they would sprout.

Oh wow! They were up about and inch all stout looking. I was so excited to see this. I took them in to show my husband, and he was excited about that too.

See most people would already have these planted a long time ago, but I just had to do it since I seen that pack of seeds in the drawer.

Now I have to figure out where I am going to plant them, and they grow out into vines. Yikes!  :) :)  This made my day.

Some time at the moment home alone.
Quiet
Phone is not ringing.
No noise.
Peaceful.

We have had rain too.
Everything is so lush and verdant green.

Stopped at a garden nursery.. they had a flat of 'seedlings" pink vinca for $8 or 9.  Grabbed a flat there were only a few ..

There were some light coral begonia ones. Talked to a nice man and pointed them out. It was the only one and they grow in shade.. so I said if you are not going to take them .. Let me know.
After he bought them .. he cut the flat at his car and brought them to me..  I love gardeners.
I gave him some of the pink vinca..

Got home and then realized these flats hold 200-288 seedlings.
The root systems are sound. So made a trough in soil and just did some that way diagonally .. a bit a a time.

Kudos on the squash.. Plant some flowers around them in a pot..lol

quietdynamics I like your idea about planting some flowers around the squash.  :)

Yesterday, on Father's Day we had the best time with dad, my two sisters, and their families. So dad had all his kids there except my brother who drives on the road across the U.S., but due to knowing he couldn't make it that day he went to see dad earlier in the week.

Dad had his children, two of his seven grandchildren, and two of his great grand daughters. He has six great grand daughters all together.

We all brought food, including a pretty Father's Day Cake, cool whip and strawberries, drinks and plenty of ice.

We went to the gazebo outside at the nursing home, and dad was so proud showing us the pretty above ground gardening he had done. He had planted some tomato plants, and some marigolds. We had told them how much he always loved planting a garden his whole life, and his love for flowers. So now they have him do that when they can. He was smiling showing them too us.

He keeps his walker in front of him to go anywhere, and it was so nice that in a basket on the front of his walker he had some small gardening tools they had got him to always have on hand if he wants to use them. They have been so good to him there, and that alone has motivated dad to want to go outside there almost everyday now to check in on his plants.

To repeat myself again, we had the best time with dad and each other. We all were blessed too that it was one of dad's good days so he wasn't feeling so weak as he is some days.

My youngest sister took some pictures there, and last night she sent us one of me and my husband next to dad there. A really good picture that I cherish.

It was a truly good day, and lifted my spirits.  :) :)

Had a breif storm yesterday.
Sky around 8:30 pm got brighter.. a surreal yellow behind the puffy cumulus clouds and the air felt 'silent'. Had put grandduaghter in bed for the night.. but, got her out to sit outside and experience the color and feeling ( she noticed the lightening bugs).

This morning temp is 75 degrees and humidty @ 60% with a breeze. Opened all the windows and have window fans going.. yeah. Feels so great.

Day before granddaughter tired of riding her bike and decided to hang on some some tree branches she could reach.
My mental light bulb went on.. a 'solution"!
Grabbed branch cutters.
With granddaughter hanging I could now reach where I wanted to cut branches. I can only do a few, but wanted to do the ones near sidewalk.

Granddaughter hanging on branch.. lowering it.
Me: cut branch
Granddaughter falls to ground holding onto branch.
Lots of laughs and giggles.

Susan that sounds like a very special day for you and your dad. And its so good to hear that he is motivated to do some gardening. The home clearly care about their residents.

QD, you are such a resourceful person. I can just imagine the two of you giggling while getting a good job done. Well done you.

Today felt somewhat productive for me. I was able to get my yellow squash transplanted for the moment until we pick up some big bags of soil to transplant again to its permanent place.

Clipped down some flower plants in my kitchen window. They look so much better trimmed up.

Making some plans to do some more sewing projects.

Oh, and seen the first buds that will bloom soon on my butterfly bush. I love that bush.

Hello everyone,

I just finished watching a beautiful movie on tv called "The Letter Writer."
It made my day in so many ways. I was crying at the end for the blessings in the movie. I just had to share that.

My granddaughters made my day today.  We took a series of bus rides, for a day of adventure.   We laughed, gabbed up a storm, and I loved every single second!

I see those beauties a few days every week and they still surprise me with their wit and intelligence.  So much like their grandma!   ;)

Scottietottie

Hi  :)

I've been AWOL again. My daughter asked if there was any chance of us heading to her place - 3 hours south of us - to babysit the 19month old as she had been kept in the hospital after a routine appointment. She wasn't actually in labour but doc thought it was imminent, the baby seemed small and she has a horrible chesty cough.

Of course we went. Spent the evening with the baby's father. I thought it was odd he wasn't with my daughter but he was waiting for a phone call to say things were moving.

He got a call about midnight. 19 month old - who had gone to bed before we arrived, so did not know we were there - seemed totally unfazed when we got him up for breakfast and spent the day with him. Couldn't believe he behaved so well. We got a message to say that a grandaughter had been born at 4:45a.m. weighing in at 6lbs10oz. Mother and baby well. They got discharged and came home at about 6:30p.m.  19month old pleased to see parents - pointed at the baby who was wearing a furry brown suit and said"Bear". He then ignored her until she yelled. He went beserk and howled! Inconsolable. Its going to take him a while to learn he has to share his mother!

Anyway - it was lovely to see the baby so new. We met our grandson when he was a few weeks old. She hasn't got a name yet. Looking forward to meeting her with her eyes open. So far - she looks very like her brother.

Home now but it was good to be able to help.

Take care - Scottie  :)

WOW Scottie, what a whirlwind 24 hours or so! Congratulations on your granddaughter! So nice that you were able to be there, and meet her so soon. I'm sure your grandson will get used to her, he seems pretty accepting if he can go to sleep with Daddy and wake up with Grandparents, and not even seem surprised by it LOL

Glad to hear that you are "gramma" again and that all is well. The baby at 6# 10 oz isn't that small after all.

Glad that you got to get there and have a good time with the grandkids. You have been on the road a bit these last weeks,. Good for you. Irish
