Hi

I had to de-ice my cas this morning - couldn't believe it -3 degrees in Yorkshire!

Walked through the small garden where my mum lives this evening. Not 10 minutes, but eery little helps.

You know, I'm not good identifying birds, but the birds around our house whistle and sing all night long. Somone said it was because we have too much light for them to sleep (security lights as we are near a public park). Does anyone know if this is true?

Well girlfriend called. I am going out to walk. Burr 52 degrees. I am a fair weather person but at least I am going out. No sun tho.

Scottietottie

I must have spent at least ten minutes outside trying to retrieve kids who kept leaving the building without permission today. Seems to be the silly season. Once I got home - I went nowhere!

I took a long stroll outside in the late evening. All the birds were finding refuge in the trees and shrubs for the night. That is, all BUT the mockingbird. He adorned our weathervane and gave warning ever third tune that the cats were out strolling with me.

You every heard a mockingbird imitate a blue jay?  Well, he was doing a heck of a job of it tonight!!he he

Its been a very quiet day here at Cox Haven. Even the cows were too busy grazing to call their little ones to come back to mama's side.

Off to bed...

Out in the garden again for most of the afternoon, weeding and planting. We are supposed to have four or five more good days like this before the rain sets in again.

Day 8

Good morning . . . happy Wednesday everyone.   ;D  Today is Day 8 of our 30 day commitment to being outside for at least 10 minutes each day.

To date, we have 40 members who are on this adventure.   ;D

To test you to see if you know anything about Central Illinois . . . . guess what kind of day we're having here today??  Let me just say, the first two guesses don't count . . . . ok, it begins with an "r" . . . .  ::)  Yep, it's a wet one.  I did, however, step out on the back step this morning and was serenaded by a chorus of various birds in the backyard.  I could hear a dog barking in the distance.  Traffic humming along on a road three miles away (probably shorter distance than that if you go cross country through the woods).

Thanks Linda for the link about birds - I haven't checked it out yet, but I hope to some time today.

Yesterday, when I walked down to get the mail in the afternoon, it was so funny watching two Tom turkeys chasing after a female turkey.  They literally run after her!!   ;D  If you have ever seen a turkey run, they can run fast, and at the same time their neck is going back and forth, back and forth (like a swan, but faster).  A guy chasing after a girl . . . how universal.   ;D

Genko - I hope you grace us with some of your garden photos this year.  For those of you who don't know our Genko - she has got the most beautiful gardens (and she's a very good photographer too).  Truly talented master gardener.   Genko, you would just cringe if you saw my yard . . . (as I hang my head).  I sure wish you lived close by, I would love to learn from you.

I hope today is a good day for everyone.  It's the middle of the week - we've already been on this little venture for a week . . . time flies when you're having fun.   ;D

Thanks, Bucky. It does keep me moving to work in the garden. I was out there again today, this time digging out a small sucker from our old lilac bush. My daughter just bought a house and wants a lilac just like the one she grew up with.

Here's the link to some pictures of the garden, and also flower arrangements I do for my tearoom (I teach Japanese tea ceremony). All the flowers are from my garden.

Day 9

Happy Thursday everyone.   ;D  Today is Day 9 of our 30 day commitment to being outside for at least 10 minutes each day.

Raindrops keep falling on my head . . . .  ::) that's the theme song we're singing around here.  We've had some really intense rains and then they move on until the next one comes.  It's got this misty haze outside right now.  I spent my time on the front porch this morning.  My, my the chatter of birds this morning!   :o  I don't know if they were giving instructions to the little ones or what, but they sure were vocal this morning.

Oh my, I've sure got my work cut out for me once all the rain finally stops - our flower beds have knee high weeds.   ::)  Ugh.  That's one thing I do not like doing . . . weeding.  IF the outside yard is to look half way decent, it's up to me to make it that way.  My husband could care less about the yard.  If he had his way, he'd let the yard grow up and he'd put out a sign "wildlife preserve - don't mow".   ::)  I should get out there the next few days and "get 'er done" while the weeds will be easy to pull and I don't have to play tug-of-war with them.  Anybody volunteer for the job??   :D

Genko - there was no link in your post.   :(

I hope today is a good day for everyone.   ;D

I just got another dog , so being out side and walking is a way of life, so is wind and sunburn.

Day 10

Woohoo . . . it's Friday!!  ;D  Today is Day 10 of our 30 day commitment to being outside for at least 10 minutes each day.  We're one third of the way through our little adventure.

Today, we're blessed with beautiful sunshine  8) - and NO rain!!  Yay!  I spent my time this morning between loading and unloading groceries out of the car and going to a few garage sales.   ;D  I'm debating about going outside and working on weeding and trimming some of the bushes.  The grass could stand to be mowed too.  Hmmmm, what to do, what to do??

Genko - as always, your gardens are so beautiful!   Those Lewisia flowers are very pretty.

Everybody have a good weekend.  Remember to keep up with your 10 minutes outdoors each day.  Everyone is doing a great job . . keep it up!  If you are just now reading this thread, it's NOT too late to join us.   ;D

Hi  :)

I went to a Walk-in-Clinic today and instead of paying to park I parked up quite a way outside the grounds. My walk there and back was my 10 minutes outside today.

Take care - Scottie  :)

OK, yesterday I cut some limbs from my tree. I did the day before as well. My plan to do just a little bit a day actually paid off with a pretty good size pile of limbs. I'm so impressed with myself! My son came by and griped at me for it though. He then fixed the water dispenser on the refrigerator, something goofy on the faucet, vaccuumed my bedroom, and took a look at recessed light acting weird. That made me so happy!

We have rain coming in, so I think my 10 minutes will be on the patio with a good book! Kinda looking forward to being outside without working. I don't have to feel guilty about it either 'cause I can't work in the rain! YAY!
I miss the good old days. Things were more like they used to be back then.

Today for my 10 minutes, I planted my potato plants in the garden and pushed my little girl on her swing. We are planning on walking to pick up my son from school, if the rain stays away so I will be well over my 10 mintues today!

I hope that everyone else is having a "sunny" day where you are.

I missed yesterday, because I was at work and then being x-rayed...I have a note from the doctor excusing me :)
I did drive with the windows all down, with "Sing Sing Sing" blasting in my speakers, though, and that was pretty fun.
Today I watered all the flowers and the chiles and the tomoatoes. Sunny and 85 here!
