For the past month my niece has been on a missionary trip to Isreal. She is with a group of doctors and medical personnel who go over and perform needed heart surgery on young children in the region.  At the beginning of the week one of the doctors noticed Emily did not look too well and examined her.  She was immediately put into the hospital with a kidney infection and for dehydration.  This morning my brother let us know that she is now in ICU because she has developed pneumonia in both lungs and is having trouble breathing.  They are doing further testing to see if she possibly has swine flu.  My sister-in-law flew out early this morning to be with her and to find out more on what is going on.

Please keep Emily in your prayers.  Our whole family is very worried about her .

I am so sorry you and your family have this terrible worry, it is so hard when you are so far away from each other.  I hope so much that she starts to improve with treatment and will soon be up and well again x

Salsen,

I'm also keeping your niece, you, and the rest of your family in my thoughts and prayers. I hope they find out what is causing this and get her the needed treatment so she can get on with her recovery.

Let us know how she is doing when you hear...

My  niece is improving slightly but will probably be in ICU for 4 to 6 more days.  She is getting oxygen, inhalation treatment and antibiotics in a drip which thankfully is starting to help.  Her lungs have a way to go to be clear but the doctors have upgraded her condition from critical to stable.  Thank You God.  Her mother arrived in Tel Aviv early this morning and is now at the hospital with her so I know this will help her a great deal.

Thanks everyone for your concern.  Please keep her in your prayers a little longer.

Salsen,

Glad to hear that your niece Emily is improving.  Also, having Mom there will help your niece feel better.  I hope she continues to improve day by day and recovers quickly from her illness.

Thanks for keeping us updated Salsen....and glad to hear that she is doing a little better!

It must be very hard to be so sick and so far away from home...but having mom there should be a big help to your niece....we are never too old to find comfort in our mom's!

Emily was moved from the ICU to a pulmonary care unit and her lungs are nearly clear.  Our big concern now is that she has developed major back pain.  The doctors are seeing a small spot on her back in xray.  They have brought in a bone specialist who has run some test to try and identify the problem.  We are all waiting to hear from either my niece or sister-in-law.  Please continue to keep her in your prayers for good test results.

My niece was finally released from the hospital last week and is staying with the group in Jerusalem as she recuperates.  Her mother flew home and we  have finally been able to talk with her on the phone.  They are still pretty concern as to why she she became so sick so quickly and are concerned about her continued back problem.  Em should be flying home in a couple of weeks and will go for an evaluation once she arrives back her in the states.  Everyone felt it would be better for her to stay with the group (she has great people watching over her ) and get her strength back before trying to make the long tiring trip back home.  Thanks to everyone who have kept her in their prayers.  We are all praying she will get a clean bill of health when she is checked here at home.
