ICA69 update- Medical Paper

Hi everyone. I was reading about the ICA69 2002 paper and the lack of funding in an old thread. Has Linda ever found out what happened in Toronto?
This is the latest paper form the same researcher, dated March 2008. Not much has changed since 2002, but they confirm that even late stage Sjogren has been reversed, which sounds great.

This is a great find, Valentina. No. I hadn't found out until I read this what happened in Toronto,,,the first page of this application tells me what happened in TO...both projects were abandoned, reasons not given apparently. I'm guessing it had to do with financing, since in Canada, we apparently have NONE!

There are only 14 Canadian drug manufacturers, all of which are classified as generic...only the Canadian subsidiaries of international companies hold patents and therefore manufacture "name" drugs. Generic drug manufacturers haven't got the research budgets of the conglomerates, so any research funding is probably focused on the home base labs of those companies. Other than that source, funding here is limited to university grants, public or governmental funds, and there just doesn't seem to be much of that. Most of what is available seems to go to the Diabetes, Heart and Stroke, or stem cell funds...not that they don't need it, too. At least there have been some results in that area, like the recent advances in "ethically sound" stem cell growth in Toronto.

yup this looks hopeful, as my son said to me there is no sure YET!!  just wish it had more funding, seems when they get a good lead on something helpful, bit like sjs really funding dries up,  :-s

You're very welcome, I love searching medical papers and finding good news!
I'm a psychology student, you see, that's what I do all day anyway...
I will see a rheumatologist tomorrow who is part of the global SICCA project , she's a researcher and will study my and lots of others DNA to find genetic markers for SIS. I will enquire about the ICA69 and whatever new is out there.

My question list is huge! I shall report back tomorrow...xxx
