After surviving our month on the road, I decide to go to the MN State Fair Yesterday. My wife Drove. The expenses were high $55 for the scooter rental, $13 to park, $ 11each for tickets, and $15 for a coupon book. Plus the money my wife spent on food and shooping.

We picked the perfect day. Temps in the low 70s, and partly cloudy. Sun screen, and sun block clothing that included big floppy hats. It was a small parking lot so it was a bit of a walk to the scooter booth from the car. For some reason I forgot my cane and that made the walk more of a challenge but it made riding the scooter easier.

We got into the fair at about 8:30 in the morning and left about 6:30 in the evening. We used the portapottys twice andthe rest rooms thrice. We far the butterfly exhibit where 3 thought I was good for a very slow 20 minute ride. Most things did not open until about 10 am.

People had a tendency to jump in front of the scooter and stop for 10 minutes. So if an exhibit was crowded I would stop and sit with the scooter off while my wife shopped. I enjoyed the 4h and educational exhibits. The kids did some amazing things!

I tried to stay in shaded areas out side. And out of traffic flow in crowded buildings. Toward the end of the day, many of the streets and sidewalks were very crowded. There were only certain places were I could get the scooter up on thesidewalk. Often people would stop in those spots to guess where they were on the map or just to visit with a friend. I would send Jan across the street to get in line while I drove down the block to the intersection to cross the street to return to her. I am surprised I did not run into any one.

Oh Joe, my idea of heck on earth is a State Fair.  But then it's always bajillion degrees when I've attempted a visit.

And people are completely unaware/rude to handicaps, no matter how obvious they are!  It is scary.  Did your scooter have a bell, or even an air horn!?

Glad you got do see fun things and get 'out and about' again.  What a spirit!

Oh, Joe, I just realized yesterday that the fair was on. I haven't been to the fair for years. Those who aren't from Minnesota don't know what a joy it is to go to the fair. It is really a joy to go on a coolish day. So much to see and so many people to watch. Also, our fair in on a specific section of town with paved roads and sidewalks, etc.

I always loved to go to WCCO years ago when Boone and Erickson were there. They were such great radio announcers with such wonderful shows plus being nice guys. Remember Roger E. calling the farmers in the barn while they milked and having such great conversations----funny as heck and sometimes a little risqué as the kids were in bed yet. Irish

We were at the 4:00 pm WCCO show yesterday. Jan was in the bleachers an I was on the scooter next to them people were leaning on the scooter.  We are almost recovered from yesterday. If I were to do it again, I will try to remember an umbrella to provide more sun shade. It was nice to  wear my compression gloves on the way home. My eyes are sill sore from the sun.

When temperatures drop in September, we may try to make it out to the MN RenFest. My costume would not go with the scooter. So we will just visit with friends that work the event and shop if we go.
