Thermostat

We moved to an apartment end of September.  I am having a hard time figuring out how the thermostat works to keep our apt comfortable.

It has four settings, auto, heat, emergency heat and cool.  You can have fan off or on auto. 

I have the heat on now.  I set it to 68.  Finally, we are comfortable.  The temperature inside reads 75.  So, in the wintertime, I've read that you set it to 68.  Do you run the heat setting only in winter?  No, AC?  With the heat setting on, I just use the up and down arrows to chose a temperature.  Is it the same with the AC? 

How does the auto setting work? 

I am so confused!

 Get the name and number of your thermostat lighthouse then look up the instruction manual on your computer   you're very good at reading things that way and I'm sure you'll figure it out   they are difficult however

  You  sound like you have a programmable thermostat?


Heat mode controls heat. Ac does the ac. If you use auto , this allows the thermostat to flip between the two modes depending on the temperature of your home and the temperatures you have set for the heat and the ac to run at.


Fan should be set on auto otherwise it will run continually and you will not enjoy that energy bill.

Thank you Carolina and CMNK12.  Last night I put it on heat mode and set for the heat to come on at 68.  The temperature was 75 Inside. Too hot!  When I got up this morning, it had dropped to 74.  Heading in the right direction!

Well Here in Cary North Carolina, it has been 75 outside!  So that would make the temperature in the house too hot.  We've had the AC on several times, really.

Keep at it, you'll get it

You can even program individual times and days for temperatures to go up and down.

But we just change it when we want a different temperature and turn it way down at night.

But you can really get fancy.

It's possible that the room/wall where the thermostat is located is drafty or consistently cooler than the rest of the house, so it just "thinks" it has to turn the heat on more often.

Also, sometimes the sensors can get out of sync....they can be kind of temperamental. It may be that if you set the heat for 65, the house actually stays more like 70....so just set it for 65 (or whatever works) and leave it there...it's just a number.

The A/C might be different, so when summer comes, you'll just have to experiment.
