Mending my broken heart

Carebear

Dear Friends,

Earlier this week we made the heart breaking decision to release our beloved shepherd/lab from his pain.   He was the most gentle soul in a giant body.  Many were privileged to fall in love with him.  Our Corky was 14, so we had many happy years together.  We were blessed.

I am sharing my grief with you, my friends, because that's what friends do.  Thanks for listening at this unbearable time.

I am very sorry for the loss of your Corky.  Pets are family!  They always understand you and don't judge you like some people do.

I have cats myself and lost a 14yr old last year. I had to win Tessa over as she was scared of everyone and was 4 years old when I adopted her. Labeled "special needs".  Just needed to come around in her own time and was a wonderful cat.

Pets are sooo comforting to us. Especially when we don't feel good they seem to understand. I am sure you had a special bond with Corky and that will always be there. The best thing we can have is a "soul" that loves us unconditionally.  8)

((Carebear)) - so sorry for the loss of your beloved, Corky.  I'm sure your family and Corky had many, many years of happy memories together.

Sending you a gentle hug as you mourn the loss of your precious pet, Corky.

Hugs,
Bucky

Oh, dearest Carebear, all we have is words here...and words can't begin to express what I feel.

You did the right thing, and doing the  'right thing' can be the hardest decision in the world.

Corky will live in your heart, in your mind's eye, in memories that bring laughter and tears.

He gave you his everything!

TS Elliot mourned the reality that the life span of our companion dogs is so much shorter than our own.  It seems unfair!

Carebear, I am so sorry for you loss. I too had to make the heart breaking decision last July to put my beloved 12 year old cockerspaniel/poodle mix down due to cancer.

We used to hike together for at least 2 miles everyday. He was my best bud and I miss him terribly. Animals are truly part of the family. I used to refer to him as my third and youngest son.

Our deceased animals live in our hearts forever. God bless.

I am so sorry - losing a pet (even when you know it's the right thing to do) is a horrible thing. They are in our lives for far too short a time. My own beloved dog is about 14 now (she's a shelter mutt so we don't really know her true age), and we give her extra love every day, knowing we probably don't have too much longer with her.

Today I will give her an extra kiss from Corky, and tell her to say "hi" when she sees him in The Great Beyond....

Carebear, so sorry for this deep and painful loss of your pet.  It takes a while but I can say the pain does lessen.  Gotta focus on the good times Corky gave you, smile and remember those.

It took me 3 wks of crying but another sweet dog fell into our laps.  She really needed us and we adopted her.  It got me over the pain right away.

I'm sending you hugs and good wishes that your heart will mend as you remember all the smiles he gave you, and know that others know the pain you are suffering.

Cry for a little while, and you gotta move on to a happier place as our days are valuable.  Smiles heal the pain...they really do.

Carebear

Thank you everyone for your kindness.  It really has helped me more than you can imagine.

We have another little guy here who was Corky's "brother", and we are giving him all our love and attention.  Those two were so close,  little Andy would sit on Corky like a couch, so we were cocerned about his well being.   They had five years together and it was truly love at first sight.

We are all on the mend.  And have been able to share happy stories about our gentle giant, at least very briefly. The tears are less.  Time is a big part of healing, and so is your giving of your support and understanding.  We thank you.

Carebear,

I am so sorry. I know exactly what you are going through. I lost my precious Wags, on Jan. 6, 2014.

I even blogged about it on my blog: https://sjodry.wordpress.com/2014/02/07/my-wags-my-heart/

Time does help. I am glad you have another pet to help ease the pain.

Take Care.

SjoDry,
I didn't know you had a blog!  I'm in. Thanks for the info.

Oh no! So sad. Sending big hugs to you. It's such a difficult thing to go through. It hurts that our furry babies don't live as long as we do.  :'(

Thank you again everyone.  We are all still reeling for our loss, leaning hard on each other.

Our little guy has started laying on my leg, like he used to lay on his big brother's back.  I feel honoured.

As you all know, it's one day at a time.

I am so sorry Carebear. We felt the same attachment for our Golden that died this weekend. He would have been 12 next month. Our pets are family. I've been through this before but it never gets easier.

Sending hugs and support. May your joyful memories give you comfort.

Oh, Cassi, you are so kind offering support when you have just experienced the same loss yourself.   I am so sorry to hear about your big guy too.  Hugs to you too.
