Instant UTI, ugh...

Woke up Sunday with a UTI, haven't had one in years. But I had zero warning---just woke up with incredible pain, as if I'd had this for days.  :(

I hope this is not a harbinger of things to come. Doc gave me Cipro, enough for 6 days. She said I only need to take it for 3, so if there's a next time, I have some. Plus that stuff that turns your pee bright orange.

Any other ideas for prevention / treatment?

I'm sorry you are suffering!! Hate those things!!

That is why for the past 3 yrs I've taken D-Mannose twice a day. I have not had a UTI since I started doing that. I used to get them every 2-3 months.

I buy the NOW brand. Very cost effective! (Swanson's Vitamins)

Are you certain it's an UTI - did you have your urine tested? I used to get the burning/pain/needing to pee constantly feeling of UTI only it was my  interstitial cystitis - it even affected my urethra.

Anyhow those UTI are really annoying , glad you're getting yours taken care of.

Yes, I tested it with one from Walgreens, then made an appt with the doc, who of course tested it again.

I bought some super-duper cranberry pills, too. The real, 100% cranberry juice is very expensive and gives me heartburn. Not sure they will really help, but I'm covering my bases.

D-Mannose is the ingredient in cranberry that stops the bacteria from adhering to the wall of the bladder. I can't tolerate cranberry .. so this is why I take the D-mannose.

Jan an I stopped in at Swanson's (retail store) just last Monday when we were up in Fargo to have our taxes done. They have a big facility on the south side of town that we have not been in. It looks very clean from the exterior when we have driven by.

Ah! Then as soon as I get it, I will quit with the cranberry pills.
