I'd rather be me than.......

Hi

I'd rather be me, along with the health problems, than walk in a friend's shoes right now. She's a good friend and also a work colleague.

Two years ago her oldest son died in a psychiatric ward. Police are still investigating and there will quite possibly be a prosecution. He had been ill for a number of years before being committed to the hospital, where he should have been safe - and getting treatment.

Obviously she has no 'closure' because it is still an open case. She still doesn't know exactly what happened.

Last week her husband - in his mid fifties - collapsed at work. He's had a heart attack. His heart is enlarged - a valve is not working and his heartbeat is irregular so now he's waiting for an operation but can't leave hospital to wait at home - it's too dangerous.

The good thing is we live near one of the best coronary care centres in the country. The bad news is it is very busy just now so he has to wait for a bed befopre being transferred.

Meanwhile my friend is trying to keep up with work, walking her dogs and visiting him in hospital. I can't begin to imagine the stress she is under. Obviously I've told her if I can do anything to help - I will. (Like I drive and she doesn't. Her hubby did all the driving and isn't going to take kindly to not being able to for a while) He's already been told that he's not likely to work again for at least a year - if he makes it.

There's other bad stuff out there apart from SjS.

Take care - Scottie

Yes there is Scottie! And it sure sounds like your friend has had her share of it....my thoughts are with her...how nice of you to offer her help...sounds like she sure has her hands full not to mention her heart broken from her son's untimely death.

I always say that there's always someone worse off, when I am having a moany day.   Hugs to your friend, she needs them.    xx

My! My! My! You could have stopped at the point about her son and that would have been more than enough. Yes, she is truly going through.

Lord, there are burdens to bear that's for sure! Well, I do thank Him that all is as well as they are for me and pray that all she faces is lightened and that she receives comfort and wisdom while going through. I pray for her husband that he recieves the blessings needed to substain him.

Truth and healing!

Sorry to hear about your friend's husband, and still no closure on her son's case to boot. That is a lot to bear. And no magic cures, either.

Scottie, I really feel for your friend - I can't imagine anything worse than losing a son and then to have to go through the trauma of nearly losing your life partner - unbearable!

I hope you'll forgive me, but I did think I might continue your theme so:

I'd rather be me than someone who lived all alone and had no family to love.

Hi  :)

I think continuing the theme is a great idea!  :)

There is always someone worse off healthwise than yourself.
BUT I look at character and am glad I am not that person!

My aunt and her son's family all moved to another state years ago. When my aunt got to the point where she needed taken care of, my cousin wanted to ship her back to where I live. At that time the ONLY family she would have around would be me. I guess my cousin didn't want to be bothered w/his own mother. But after he found out what the travel cost would be and after a letter I sent "he must be good at reading between the lines" I got the ltr 'Oh I love her very much and we decided to find a place here." Yeah   :P

I am happy with the character of the person I see in the mirror each day.
Our travails in life shape us. Whether that is for the good or bad is what we make of it.

I'd rather be me than the man in charge of student loans in England today! I heard him on two seperate radio channels this morning, and he would need the hide of a buffalo, not to have been offended by the way he was treated.

Id rather be me than someone with an underactive immune system. Somebody with AIDS must have it worse than I do by catching every sickness under the sun. People are afraid to be near them let alone touch them to give them a hug. My immune system KICKS by butt daily, but I am lucky it's not the other way around.  Gentle Hugs....Mary

That's I've gotten through all the rough spots in life I just tell myself that there is somebody out there that has it worse than I do. Some days I may get down and think negative but I know deep down in side it's really not as bad as it could be.
