Jean shopping - need your input

Hi Ladies . . . . sorry guys, this is a ladies topic today.   ;D   I NEED to buy a pr. (or two  ;)) of jeans and wondered which brand, style were your favorites?  I hate trying on clothes - it's such a l-o-n-g drawn out affair.  This past week I DID go to the store and I must have tried on AT LEAST two dozen pairs of jeans.  Ugh!  By the time you come home from that, you are ready for a nap!!   ;)

When I was growing up there was only one kind of jean (that I know of) - now, there are soooo many different kinds of jeans.  I think those low-riders should be banned!!  They don't look good on anybody and I don't want to see your backside when you sit down or bend over!!   :o  I'm not fond of the high waisted jeans either (although, I have owned some of these in the past).  I like the ones that sit just below the natural waist.  I also prefer that they DON'T have any flaps or buttons on the back pockets - I like a smooth, lay flat pocket - I don't need any more attention to my backside, thank you very much!!   ;)

By the time I find a jean that fits good in the waist - and doesn't gap - they are too big in the thighs.   ::)  I don't like the baggy leg jeans - I like the ones that fit, but aren't skin tight.   I also prefer the dark blue jeans.  Funny, all the fashion people say that the dark wash jeans are the most flattering to people, yet all you see in the stores are the acid washed / faded jeans!!   ::)  I am NOT a skinny person,  I have curves ( ;D), so I need all the camouflage I can get!   :D

I'm not too picky, am I?  LOL   ::)   ;D  Hey, if I'm paying money for these jeans, I want them to fit and look good - I will wear them a lot.

I know different manufacturers sizes vary quite a bit - I tried on jeans in three different sizes, some were skin tight, others - I was swimming in them!!   ::)

So, what's your favorite brand / style of jeans?  Store that you buy them at (here in the U.S.).

Thanks for your input.

Hey Bucky,

I'm a big fan of Levi's, and I prefer a loose fit instead of a snug one.  My favorite pair will always be a 501 when I can find it in my size.

Wish I could offer you advice. I buy whatever fits and all different kinds. I also only get dark blue jeans - hate the acid washed ones. Ewww! Same problem, one part fits and the other doesn't. I always have to take 5inches off the legs too.

Just an FYI that most clothes have a "chemical" on them to either make them stiffer or repel bugs. Some clothes you have to wash a few times to get that out. I never knew this until yrs ago I bought new pjs and wore them and developed a terrible rash from the chemicals.

Hi Bucky,
I know what you mean about having to try on several dozen pairs to find one pair that fits. I did that recently.

What I ended up with was Levis 515 jeans. I have curves as well and seem to be a lot like you. These jeans seem to be made for women like us, and they had several dark colors in them. I even found black at the store I went to.

Good luck on your hunt I know exactly what you mean.

Ohhhhh...I hate to shop for jeans!

I also have to try on so many pairs to find something that fits and that I like...and when I do....that's the one I get....doesn't matter the size...brand....whatever...lol!

My favourite jeans are always S-T-R-E-T-C-H denim these days  ;D

Hi Bucky,

My favorite jeans tend to be from the Gap, but I honestly haven't bought any in a while.  They usually have a wide variety of colors and cuts.  I like jeans that are low rise (not the super low ones so my bum hangs out when I sit down) or just-below-the-waist.  Unless they are on sale they can be pretty pricey at the Gap, so I usually try a bunch on in the store to figure out what fits best, then see if they have anything similar on the sale rack or in the online sale.

Good luck!

I had a really good experience when I went to Vanity in the mall too get a pair of jeans.  They were very helpful and they would get you different pairs while you were in the dressing room so you didn't have to get dressed just to get a different size.  I also like Silver jeans, they have always been a favorite.  Mostly I just shop clearance a get what looks good and is cheap, shopping clearance though requires alot of trying on.
Good Luck

I have been buying Levis 505 they are straight legs and fit my tiny legs much better. Also in the rear end. I am down to a size 4 so it is hard to find something to fit. Kohls has them.
Good luck, harlin

Thanks gals for the replies.  Yesterday, I spent the day running around AGAIN looking for jeans.  Went to six different stores and tried on AT LEAST another two dozen jeans.  Ugh!  I'd find a few that fit in one area, then be too baggy in another.  I tried on three different colors of the SAME size and brand jean and each pair fit different - nothing made it into my shopping cart.   :'(

Some of those dressing rooms are so little and claustrophobic - no air circulation in there.   ::)

As universal as "jeans" are, you would think the stores would carry more sizes than they do.   Harlin, you're just a little thing - shoot, I would think it would be easier for you to find something to fit than those of us who have a little more junk in our trunk (and other areas).  LOL  ::)

"I looked for the Levi jeans some of you mentioned, found every other number under the sun other than those!!   :o  They should have a Levi store.  I imagine in some areas they do, but here where I live there is none.

"Maybe" I'll be out on the jean trail again tomorrow . . . . it's wearing me out going from store to store and trying them on.

I'm glad you started this thread as I am also about to buy some new jeans.  I love Levis but they are sooo expensive.  Like someone else said though - you get what you pay for and Levis are a proven quality product.  I can never decide on the cut and I would like some skinny jeans, but I do like the slightly baggy straight leg look as well - hooray, perhaps I need two pairs!  Any excuse eh?

You could try Lands End or LLBeans.  They have several different styles for various-shaped people.   Plus Lands End will hem most of them for you.  I like Beans jeans.

JC Penney also has Levis. You could prob order online if you knew the size and cut. good luck!!

JC Penney catalog sales: You can take items you ordered back to catalog dept. at local Penney's store and they will give you credit and you don't incur any return cost.  When ordering wearing apparel, I order 3 or 4 different sizes.  That way, I can usually find one that fits.

OH, TO BE A SIZE 4 LIKE HARLIN... NOT 40 LBS. OVERWEIGHT AS I AM!!! ;)  J :'(Y

Today was another jean hunting day.  This time I went to three stores and tried on another two dozen jeans.  Geesh, that's AT LEAST 72 prs. of jeans total!!!   :o

After sorting thru the ones that fit in the legs, but gaped too much at the waist; ones that the legs were way too baggy; ones that were way too low for this gal . . . . . I found a few that I liked.   ;D  Since I couldn't make up my mind, I bought six jeans and two capri's.  I'm not keeping all these - too expensive - but, I will try them on again in my own personal fitting room ( ;) Joy - I saw your post AFTER I got home from the store) - get my son & hubbies opinion - keep two jeans and one capri and return the rest.  Unless . . . . y'all want to make a monetary donation to me so I can keep 'em all since I tried so many on!!   :D   ;D

Oh by the way, two of these six pairs are Levi's (512 & 515).  Levi's run a little bit more expensive, but I figure I will wear these jeans over 100 times in a year and at $30.00 (on sale) it would only cost me 30 cents each time I wore them.  Not bad at all!!   ;D

Hopefully, the jeans that make the cut and are keepers don't shrink a lot when I wash them.  (I think jeans are a little bit better with less shrinkage than they used to be in years gone by.)   Keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm tired - but happy that I have some jean/capri hopefuls sitting in a few bags in the bedroom.   :D

For those of you who wear capri's in the summer - better get them now before they are all picked over - forget trying to find a pair come June!!   ::)

P.S.  I'm soooooo thankful I'm not hunting for a swimming suit - that's a nightmare too!!!!  (I found one last year after "the hunt" - my first swimsuit in over 20 yrs!!   :o).
