Love the sights and sounds of the holidays . . . .

It makes me sad to see how the stores rush through the seasons.  In July they start putting out Halloween candy.  Prior to Labor Day they were already putting out the Christmas items.  You have to buy your items early or if you wait until the actual holiday arrives, the items will already be picked over and on clearance!   

This might sound contradictory . . . but this week I have been in a Christmasy mood.  I've been listening to some "oldies" like Bing Crosby and Perry Como singing those old familiar songs of yesteryear that my parents and grandparents listened to "way back then" . . . LOL.    This morning as I was out and about doing errands, at one store I went isle by isle thru the Christmas section and just looked at the pretty trees all decorated, looked at all the ornaments, listened to the music.  I wasn't in a hurry and could take my time to just enjoy it.     I just love the sights and sounds of Christmas.  I can't wait to get out all the decorations to put around the house - it makes the house look so festive.  I haven't yet decided which tree to put up this year.  One tree involves a lot of trips up from the basement carrying up boxes of ornaments, lights and the tree itself.  It takes time to decorate the tree too (not to mention rearranging the room for the tree to fit in).  On the other hand . . . my other tree . . . one of my favorites . . . is a 4 foot retro 1950's silver pom pom tree.  I love this tree!!     It's very simple to put this tree up . . . put the box under your arm, grab a couple of boxes of ornaments and the color wheel from the basement.  The last several years I have opted for the silver tree vs. the tall green tree.  Since I do all the hauling and decorating, I figure I can do what I want.      I'll check with "the boys" this year and see which one they want.  IF they want the green one - they're gonna have to help!!!   I know some of you are thinking . .. have both trees.  I have done this on one occasion before, but I'd really rather only decorate one.  I have a friend who decorates four or five trees (big trees) in her house every year!!     Whoa, too time consuming for me!!

Something we used to when I was growing up was a group of us would go around to different neighborhoods and sing Christmas carols.  I haven't done this or seen anyone do this in a very long time (20+ years).   Now, having such a dry mouth, I doubt I could be outside singing for very long at all without sipping on my water.  Kinda spoils the mood.

I hope as the holidays are approaching that you will take time to enjoy the sights and sounds of the season.

 :)I think it is nice you have spirit...I have some but need to kick into high gear, Hubby has most of outside decorated and I have not started inside. We do both Christmas and Hanukkah decorations so takes a bit. It is a bit easier down here as it is warm out and easier to decorate. I am just so tired and sore....want to do it, just have to work up to it. By Thanksgiving I will get it done, or at least started.

Yes, Bucky I agree with you.  The stores wear out the holidays before they even start.   

However, like you, I love the sights and sounds.  This year I have opted to hang my outside wreaths before Thanksgiving while we have reasonably warm weather.  Last year I discovered I had Raynaud's and it was quite painful trying to hang them in 28 degree weather. 

With 2 new great grandchildren this year, I'm sure it will be wonderful.  We don't have a lot of money to spend, but we do give to the little ones.  Hubby and I usually purchase something we have wanted for a while.  We call it "from to you, for us" gift. 

This year it's a new bathroom floor.    Not very fancy, but oh so necessary since the tub to shower conversion.

Ok, I have a question that applies to the holidays as my hubby asked if I wanted a "kindle" electronic reader for a holiday gift. He saw one and thought it was a cool idea as I read alot. My question is this...Does anyone have one or know anyone that has one? Do they/you like it? Is it worth the expense? Looks cool, but hate to have him spend that much if it's not all it's cracked up to be...Would be easier to hold than a full sized book.

I do,    got mine last year for Christmas.

I really like it. I down load books off amazon. Sometimes there are free down load books and sometimes .99 cents for out of print. I down loaded all of Mark Twain's writtings for .99 cents. Out of print books are very cheap.

I subscribe readers digest on it.

A kindle can hold over 2000 books in it.

It keeps your place in all books your are reading automatically.

It packs well for vacations.

It has a built in dictionary. If there is a word I want to look up. Just place my cursor on the word and click the definition is there.

I probably don't even know all its capabilities.

But if you have any more question just ask.

recently Amazon made it so  that we could down load and read all our kindle books on our PC now for free.

So have been reading my books on my computer, just in the past few days....this is a new bonus surprise added just recently.   

I love that also. Sweetens the deal!
