Is it any wonder why......

Lets see if I can get this all down.  I have been thinking about this a lot lately.

In todays world:

No one pumps your gas for you, you have to do it yourself.

Pick out your shoes, determine if they have your size, and try them on (shoe sales man anyone?)

Deposit your own checks (via the ATM)

Get cash out of your account yourself  (that lovely ATM again).

Pick out your own groceries  (no one to help getting items off shelves)

   Ring up your groceries yourself.

Pack them in the bags, and if you remember, bring the bags with you that you pack the groceries in.

Carry the grocery out to the car (I vaguely remember shows where they had people that did that for you)

Push the buttons on the elevator yourself  (okay I am not quite old enough to remember when this was done by someone else  ;D)

Research things you are thinking of purchasing, since there is no longer any one in the stores to explain them to you.

Spend hours on the phone just hoping to get hold of a customer representative to straighten out an issue.

So is it any wonder why kids in today's world, has no idea what customer service is. ???
When have they ever had a chance to see it?

I'm pretty sure a kid's idea of customer service these days is, "Do you want fries with that?" And that is just before you carry your meal back to the table yourself!

Ohio & Linda,

Problem is you two are not going to the right stores. Don't ya know ya have to go to stores that sell stereos, tvs or any technical gadgets. Oh they love to help you, it allows them to play with the gadgets while they demonstrate them for you! They will spend the day with you whether your buying or not. They just want to play!

Had not thought about looking at the technical route.

But that does remind me of what my Dad and I would do as I was growing up.
We would walk into the appliance area of a Sears and just stay long enough to see how long it would take the sales people to start heading our way.  I called it teasing the sales people and quite often that event was the highlight of our day.  (I remember begging him "could we please go by and tease the sales folks!")  Major entertainment for us!

But than as I understand it, my family has always had a strange sense of humor.  I remember a story that Dad would tell about his father.   His father would stand in the middle of downtown (where the tall buildings were) and either just stare - looking up , or would stare and point up.   He would wait until he got a crowd of people also looking up and then would wander off, leaving the crowd behind! :D

Ohio.....Your dad and grandfather sound like my kind of people! That's too funny!

Ohoiocat, thank you for your first post, and the second one, who made me really laugh! I'm really gonna try that one day! Stand on the sidewalk and stare up in the sky untill there are crowds there, and then walk away!!!  ;D

This will probably date me buuut:

Remember when you got your car tank filled up with gas and got something free for the fillup?  I have a set of glasses my dad acquired years ago which he got each time the tank was filled.

AND the ice cream bars that sometimes had FREE on the stick so you could get a extra free one. Dad used to tell me they did that with candy bars long ago.

I don't remember the ice cream bars...but I do remember the free gifts when you filled up with gas! We had a whole large collection of black bowls that we got from the gas station every time we went....too funny!

Gosh, this'll date me too, but I remember the glasses free when you filled up on Thursdays!

Do y'all remember the free maps at the gas stations?  How about them cleaning your windows and checking the oil levels?  Wow, what we remember, and so sad that none of that exists anymore either!
