This is off the topic, but 2 of my generation's icons have passed away yesterday. Farrah and MJ.

I have to admit I had that Farrah hair thing going on when I was in high school...LOL
and I perfected the moonwalk just like Michael....LOL

Did you know that MJ supposedly had some form of "lupus" and it was said he had been in remission.

They are staples from my childhood that will be deeply missed.

RIP Farrah and Micheal

Victoria,
It was a sad day.   They both died so young.

Yes, very sad. I do feel kind of bad for Farrah's family because coverage of her has been kind of overshadowed by Michaels. amazing that they would pass on the same day!

I didn't hear about Farrah till I read it here.  She will always seem young and beautiful, and the girl we all aspired to be as teenagers, to my schoolfriends and I.

Life is precious.  I need to remember this more often when I start to focus on all its problems and limitations.  Thankyou, all my friends here in S. World, for all the times you help me to focus on the many good parts.  XX Ailsa

I heard about Farrah yesterday evening,  and felt really sad that such a beautiful woman had died so young. Then this morning at 6 am UK time, I heard bout Michael. I'm really shocked. They are are both part of my era too. I remember dancing to Rockin Robin with my auntie, who is the same age as me, at the youth club.

It's true that Michael's music spans the generations as he has long been a favourite of my youngest son, also a Michael, who loved his music but was fascinated by his dancing. In fact, when he was about 13 Michael persuaded me to pay for him to go to disco dancing classes so that he could dance like MJ. Well, that ws the theory - the reality was that he didn't enjoy the classes at all, so packed them in.

My hubby and middle son are now watching tributes to MJ. I guess they will be on all weekend but I don't think many people with complain, not at our house any way.

RIP Farrah and Michael.

I agree.....yesterday was sad and we lost 2 people who passed way before they should have. The day before Farrah and Michael Jackson died...Ed McMahon also died...another icon that we all got used to seeing on the late night tv!

It's all very sad!

I too agree - yesterday was brutal!  I remember Farrah's hair, but I could never get mine to hold like hers (didn't know that you needed to have super thick hair for that particular style), it broke my little ol' heart (for about 2 seconds! :D).  And yep, I'll admit, I did watch "Charlie's Angels" for about two years before losing interest.  And I wish she had filmed more movies, she really did have talent (not just another pretty Hollywood face).

What can anyone say about Michael?  He had a great voice, had outstanding dance moves (and yes, I could almost moon walk ;D), and could lay a track down.  Whew, I must have gone through a couple copies of the "Thriller" tape (I wore them out!).  Amazing lyrics.

He was charming, full of life, extremely talented, and had a good sense of humor; he will be so missed.

Does anyone know the names of the last 3 soldiers that died in Iraq or Afghanistan, I didn't think so.

irish

Epson, Point well taken.

Also, I watched the Jon and Kate (divorce) show this week. No matter what your opinion Jon made a very valid remark. He said that "soldiers are dying in Iraq and the paparazzi are reporting what I had for dinner". Just goes to show you that our nation has not "suffered" as much as we like to think. Just my humble opinion. Irish ;D

And yes, Farrah was "upstaged" by Michael and it makes me feel bad. She is on page 2 now in the paper and we will hear about Michael for the next week. Also, I hear that Hollywood is reeling with these 3 deaths so close together. Hit them hard I guess.

Very good point, Epson,

I do know the names of the last 3 Canadians (most recent of 121) and their deaths occurred on June 14, June 8th and April 23. Out of consideration for the privacy of their families (although only a few of the 121 families have requested private funerals for their fallen), I hesitate to post names, but the Corporal, Private and Major who are our most recent losses are missed and remembered...the Canadian motto for veterans and casualties of war is "Lest We Forget", and our symbol for them is the poppy, since a Canadian poet immortalized them in a poem to fallen heroes, In Flanders Fields, the scene of a WW1 battle.

Sorry, stepping down from soapbox now.

Anytime a person dies, whether famous or not, it is a sad thing.  And yes Epson, we should all pay more attention to our men and women who are giving their lives and body parts to this horrible war on terror.

I'm proud to say our state has begun a wonderful memorial in our state capitol to honor these heroes. http://www.armytimes.com/news/2007/05/ap_pennsylvaniahonorbanners_070512/

And yes, I know everyone of the names of those from our state that have fallen in Irag and Afghanistan, not only this time, but from Desert Storm also.  My own son served in the Air Force for 27 yrs. and was a part of Desert Storm .  Thankfully, he returned unharmed although his plane landed with lots holes in it.

God rest Farah and Michael and God Bless and keep our heroes, past, present and future.

I honestly know the last two names from my state......

One happens to be my co-workers son who died in Iraq at the age of 26 on March 25, 2009.

I also know my Uncle and Cousin's name that have died.....both died at vietnam before I was born.

I also know people who have survived war....they have a deep passion for their country....my father was in vietnam and now struggles with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

I see him limp at times because of a car bomb that went off when we lived overseas back in the 80's.  It killed 2 of our closest friends.

I went to school where our hall monitors were MP's with machine guns on their backs guarding us.

I saw my parents take a mirror to check for bombs under our car before they took us to school.

I have lived in a hotel on base with my family for 58 days because of the threat of violence.

I have even let my dogs out for a walk (where I normally went everyday) and be surrounded by military men with guns and pushed into a area for safety.

I have seen and heard things that NEVER made it back to the USA in the media.

Would I do it all over again???

Definitely.

Do I still think Farrah and MJ are 2 icons I will miss?

Definitely.

Do I pray for our fallen angels everyday? (and NO, I do not know all 5,009 names)

Definitely.

Do I think someone's life is more precious than another?

No.

My goodness, we had 2 more entertainment people die today. The guy who did the infomercials for oxiclean and other products was found dead in bed this AM by this wife. He was only 50. I cannot for the life of me remember his name right now. He looks like Dennis Miller -- I think.

Then Gail Storm, an old movie star from the 50's and 60's died. Seems like they are having a run on deaths and funerals. Irish ;D
