Has anyone recently got a prescription for biotene toothpaste in the UK? I ask because my local pharmacist yesterday said he had to order it in, and today he said he cannot order it as it is not made anymore????

If you have got this toothpaste on prescription in the UK was it a larger chemist ie Boots because I can try there?

Many thanks

Hi Fluffie

I don't get the toothpase on prescription, just the oral gel. Could you contact the manufacturer (google it) and see if they can help you?

By the way, what was the advice about the amitrtiptyline and pill?

I buy all my Biotene products from www.drugstore.com.  Maybe you can do the same from the UK.

Hi, I am trying to get it free on the NHS rather than buying it, but thanks for the link!

Hi Fluffie - just noticed your question about Biotene Toothpaste on prescription.  I have to say that I have this prescribed to me by my G.P. with no problems - I also do not pay, as I am over 60.  The chemist I use is only a local one, not large like Boots etc.,  I would add that they did say that it wasnt something that they ordinarily kept in stock and that it would need to be ordered specially in.  I now get a couple of tubes at a time and make sure a new script is giv en in to the chemist in plenty of time for them to order more, if need be.  Hope this is helpful to you.

Hi Fluffiebunnie,

Have you tried another local pharmacy?  Otherwise Chemistdirect.co.uk is quite good.

Tried chemistdirect.co.uk but they dont have it on prescription ... have emailed GSK to ask if they still produce this product for prescription.  Have emailed Boots the Chemist and also Lloyds Pharmacy, so waiting to hear back.

I would be interested to know how many people actually get this easily as it is becoming a bit of a nightmare!!!

Just got this reply from Lloyds Pharmacy:

Thank you for contacting us,

I have checked with our suppliers and several Biotene products have been discontinued.  It is possible that if you speak to your GP she/he may prescribe you an alternative.  However if you take the prescription to your Local Lloydspharmacy, they may have stock at their local warehouse (AAH wholesalers).  All Lloydspharmacy branches use the same suppliers so have equal chance of obtaining the products.  You can find your nearest branch by using the store locator on our web site.

I bought toothpaste-gel and mouthwash all from Boots (larger branches) and the smaler ones will order it in.
