I yiyiyiyiyiyi....I cant stand these leg and foot cramps I have been having...they hurt so bad! :o  I'm sure many of you can relate to this.....last night I kept waking up due to the cramping. I was having them pretty bad for a few weeks on and off and thought it was better until last night....I sure hope tonight is better!

I just had my thyroid medicine increased about 1 week ago as it was running high....and I thought that was the problem...maybe it still is and it just taking some time to work in my system. I also just had some labs done.....sodium, potassium, calcium are all ok!

Any ideas?

For the last six months I have been getting really bad foot cramps for doing the littlest things.  Again as with most test done for me nothing showed up unusual.  I'm thinking because of my neuropathy and my balance issues maybe it is just stress on the muscles from trying to stay up right when I walk.

I keep thinking I read somewhere that taking some magnesium tablets could help with this, but I would look it up first.

Hiya

I find that tonic water containing quinnine helps with the cramps - which I believe are related either to the peripheral neuropathy, or my asthma inhalers.

I have been taking potassium supplements for my leg cramps.  It seemed to help, but I stand at work for 12 hours and I am not sure what helps.  I also placed a pillow under my heels to raise my legs in bed at night.  I think something is working.  Just wish my left big toe would stop being numb.

Hi Lynn,

Double ouch!!!  I get them in my toes/feet sometimes, and I have to quit thinking about walking - ain't happening!  Even though my levels of sodium, potassium, calcium are normal, I will eat a couple of banana's and it slowly eases enough to start walking again (along with a couple of Tylenol Extra Strength! ;) :D).

Have you asked your doctor if there is something that you can take or do to help the seizure of your muscles?  If you have already, what did he have to say about it?

Take care -

Patze

this may help you get though one: sit with your foot in the air and write the alphabet with your foot. my rheum suggested this, and it has helpd get through a cramp, though you still should find out why, also, I think banana's and dried fruit help alleviate cramps

I had this and it may be related to Neuropathy or muscle inflammation. I ended up with dropped foot and a motor neuropathy. There are some products at the health food stores. Something called calm comes to my mind. Yes try it all. You maybe need a script med however.

I get cramps in my right foot.  I wonder why it's only the right foot?  They are a pain!

These cramps are a real pain, when I sit on my knees to clean out the woodburner, I always get it in one foot ouch! Also sometimes at night in bed for no reason. Putting your foot on a cold floor helps and also Magnesium Complex/Complete. Everyones suggestions are good. These cramps seem to go along with the autoimmune stuff  ::)
