We all speak of weird body temperatures,, butis there any reputable sites out there that say this is really a medical condition,,

Hi Navydad

I googled for 'fluctuating body temperatures' and came up with some results but I'm not a medic - and I don't know whether they were 'reputable' sites or not.

I don't think a change in temoperature is an actual condition but I do believe it can be an indication of another condition.

I know that before blood tests were invented, thyroid disease used to be diagnosed by taking the 'basal temperature' at the same time every morning. People who are hypothyroid have a lower than normal temperature and tend to feel the cold.

Inflammatuion, common in rheumatic conditions, can raise the temperature - short of outright fever.

I'll be interested to see the other answers you get to a good question.

Take care - Scottie

I learned from this forum that there is a condition called autonomic neuropathy that can affect the bodies ability to regulate cooling.    You might want to google it.

I would be interested too, as my temperature until I hit the teen years was right around the 98.6 or so, then it went down to 97.2 for the next several years until the thyroid slowed down.  Now a days, it's at 96.2 and can go up to 98.0 during the active part of the day, and goes back down to 96 or even lower at night (some nights).  My temperature was always steady with only minor fluctuations, now it's up the scale and then down again (and doctors wonder why I don't feel well).

Take care -

Navydad,

When I researched this topic about a year ago, I didn't find anything definitive, in-fact, I found that no one really knew what the average body temperature was until recently and it wasn't 98.6, there was even average temperatures for different age groups.

I know that this is absolutely no help, but it's about as good as what you would get by going to the doctor and I'm not charging you a penny :D

My normal body temp is 97.3 and I can't remember the last time it was 98.6.  A long time ago I asked my doctor about it and he said that because of the Hashimoto's disease (thryoid) that it is nornal for me to be abnormal.  I have also noticed that when I get sick with a cold or the flu my body temp goes down instead of up.

I have always been one who is too hot and the cooler weather seemed to suit me better.  Lately I am freezing cold, especially my feet.  They get so cold that they start hurting.  I take hot baths to warm up but still my feet don't seem to want to get warm.  The temps outside are in the 70-80's and the temp inside the house has been around 80 and I am cold then hot then cold, etc.

Wow Navydad, what are your doctors saying about that?  Forgive me if you've already mentioned it, but have you seen an endo by chance?  If you have, what did he say about this?  That's one heck of a spike!

Hang in there and take care my friend -
