Heat intolerance and Noise sensativity

I spent today at the zoo with my little one. I have always seemed to be sensative to heat (get lightheaded, nausea, migraines, extreme fatigue). Today, most of those symptoms are not present (haven't noticed it as much since starting the Plaq. One that I have noticed and wonder if anyone else does this, is chills.  I am not sunburnt because I do get chills if I get sunburnt. Now that I am home and have showered, I am FREEEEEEZING! This may sound strange but I am figuring ou that most of the sjoggie symptoms are ALL strange!
I also saw another post about noise sensativity. Is this a common symptom?
Thanks,
Kirby

I was diagnosed about 6 mo. or so ago.  I have noticed a sensitivity to heat about 5 yrs. ago.  If I am out in the heat very long I start to feel lightheaded, nauseous and just bad.  Over the last year I have developed a definite sensitivity to noise.  I don't really know if this is related to SS.  I have had a multitude of symptoms arise over the last year.

Hi Kirby,

You are so right, everyone seems to have different reactions to heat/cold.  I know that I have terrible sweating issues with heat, and being outside when it's very warm makes things a bit interesting.  I know what you mean about feeling weak, and do tend to get headaches from it - so I stay indoors a lot more than I used too.

Being indoors, I can understand your freezing as a lot of us have some interesting things going on with SJS.  Do you have Reynaud's by chance?

When I can hear a sudden noise, it's seems to be louder for me than those around me...I always thought that it was a little weird quirk I had, and I'm glad that I'm not the only one (thought I was going a bit nuts for a while - more nuts than usual ;) ;D).

Take care -

i have the same thing since my hysterectomy...and now menopause..have you had all your hormones checked???

Well, some might say that the temperature issue is do to female hormones or menopause, but I'm a man and I go from freezing most of the time to heat stroke when I'm in the sun and other days when I'm outside, everyone is melting and I don't feel the heat at all.  It seems like a neurological problem where the brain is no longer interpreting the nerve signals that tell the body that it is too hot or too cold.

I hate going out to eat with friends because the noise level always seems to high and make it almost impossible to concentrate on what people at my table are saying. I can't say I don't want to go, because I know my wife enjoys going out to eat with friends and it's a small price to pay to make her happy, it has to be a real drag to be around Soggies.

There is no happy medium is there? I think I'm either cold or too warm. Never just right. The noise is bothersome too. It is very frustrating and some days I feel it gets the best of me. I do have Raynaud's and it really effects my hands and feet. I have my office set at 75, but it the air hits me just right I'm cold and I hurt. There's times I have to sit on my hands to warm them up before I can continue typing at work. I move my feet alot too. People might think I'm moving them to the music on the radio, but its just to try and get them warmed up!

Hugs to you all,
Leslie

You are not going mad , this seems to be a major symptom of SS.   This darn SS throws it's all at us!

It's June, and I am still freezing, then other times I am on the boil.

For years  I coulden't stand the UK winters, now it's creeping into Summer .. I have been so miserable of late as I feel that I can't dress nicely as I always need to be wrapped up, even then I can still feel cold.  I'm only happy if there is some sort of heating , then that sets the dryness off !!

We are attending a wedding in 3 weeks time, and I am in a panic about what sort of day it will be, also worrying about the hotel reception areas, if it has AC I will be in trouble with my dry eyes etc'...  I will probably be lugging a suitcase around with me on the day with allsorts , just in case !!

It sure is a pain tho' and I am sick of it !!
                                                                                                             Bless Dolly x

Thank for all of your replies! I am lgad to find a forum where people know what I am talking about!
I am still being quite ticked off that I could've had some treatment for these symptoms that were all blown off or attributed to something else or the last 9 years! My main problem has been the muscle aches, cramps and weakness. I carried a half gallon of paint around (for about 10 mins) to paint trim in a room 2 days ago and my biceps is STILL sore!
Anyway.....The chills I have are just when I have gotten overheated during the day. I "supposedly" have Reynauds but it was never classic systoms (more in one foot than in hands). It seems to be better with the PLaq.
Thanks again!

I've noticed over the past year I am more sensitive to noise. Thank God for remote controls, as many commercials are louder than the program I am watching, and gets on my nerves. As fr temperatures... My husband and I both like our house cool. We live in Phoenix and keep our AC on 72, even as our neighbors maintain theirs at 78 0r 80. But I get too hot at 72, yet when I set the thermostat to 71, I freeze! I also wake up in a sweat almost every  night! Man o man, this Sjogren's is taking some getting used to! ;)

I'm also incredibly intolerant to the heat.  My comfort level is usually at a point when others are putting on jackets and I seldom feel cold.    I also am very sensitive to sound but always just attributed that to slight hearing loss.   I've never heard of that being assoiciated with Sjogrens.   Could it be?

TerriJ

Crabcakes,

I had to laugh when you mentioned tv commercials.  I keep the remote by me so that I can mute the commercials.  Noise is so irritating at times.  My husband asked me why I don't listen to music as often as I used to.  I told him that quiet just feels better.  I also sometimes will get  short periods of a muffled feeling in one ear or the other along with tinnitus and burning in the ears.

That is funny to me!!! My hubby asks why I don't listen to the radio in the car!!! Because I LIKE QUIET!!!  With a 3 year old, I don't get much of it!  So when we are in the car together, he turns it up, I turn it down....vicious cycle!

I am still very new to the Sjogren's, but I have had Fibromyalgia since 1998 and when I get a flare, the first thing I notice is the sounds around me.  I am noticing that the sounds around me bother me more and more frequently.  If more than one person is talking in our house at once these days, I mildly freak out!  Sometimes just to myself and sometimes my family knows about it.
:-[
On side note:  I always enjoyed sitting outside in the sun and lately, my feet start really burning with the feeling of pins and needles right away.  While my son drove me to the doc's, I had to move my feet out of the sunshine inside the car...  Has this happened to anyone, is this a normal kind of Sjogren's thing??
I really thank everyone for their posts, I am learning a lot.

I knew I was more sensitive to heat and cold, but thought the noise level was just me!!!  I can't stand to watch game shows because they are so noisy and loud, some screechy kids out in public get to me, I thought I was just getting old and liked my peace and quiet!!  When in the sun, my head looks like someone poured a bucket of water on me and when cold I am freezing.  Guess I'm not alone, huh!

Billydude

This tread is so interesting.  I'll also add to my earlier comment that just this past year I started not listening to the radio in the car at all.  It drives my nerves crazy.  I thought maybe I was just getting older.    Also,  the cheering of the crowd on television shows drives me nuts too.
