Update on Eye Condition

Hello all
I went back to my opthamologist this morning. I have a bacterial infection- severe in my left eye and starting in my right. Luckily I don't have to have my plugs removed! She put me on Tobramcine/ Dexamethasone drops for 10 days. They are an antibiotic and steroid drop. I had been using the Vigamox drops because I thought it was pink eye like what my boys had. She did say that with my severe dry eyes and Sjogrens that my eyes were reacting more than a normal eye would. I can tell you that I didn't realize how much I can't see out of my left eye right now. Good thing I'm right eye dominant. It does explain why my headaches are worse. So the moral of the story, don't mess around when it comes to your eyes or your health in general.

Sounds very unpleasant.  I know when my eyes are really bad (like now with a cold) it makes me miserable all over (tired, achy, restless) - they really do impact everywhere.

Hope the meds work quickly and you are more comfortable soon.

Hi Leslie,

I had a similar thing happen to me.  I thought I had caught pink eye from my nephew so I started using his Rx drops.  My eyes kept getting worse so I ended up referred to an ophthalmologist.  This is when I discovered I had chronic dry eye and got the ball rolling with my Sjogren's dx.  They think I had an allergic reaction to the Rx on top of the inflammation from the dryness.

I've taken Tobramycin and I had luck with it.  I've used both that and Tobramax? (one's a drop and one's an ointment I think, can't really remember).  They really helped clear up the problem.  I hope you have the same result!

Thank you so much! This is quite the thing to go through. Erin, How long did it take for your eyes to clear up?
I hope you get over your cold soon Beverley- this time of year makes a cold that much worse to have.
