going back to work tonight

tonight will be the first shift i ll have done in 8 months, i was told id not nurse again, but then im not one for doing what im told lol.

Im excited to get back, and kind of nervous , been a long time sinc ei was on my feet all night on an 11 hour night duty, im being phased in, i have annual leave built up so im going back one night a week for 5 weeks, then back to my usual 2 nights a week, those who pray say a quick one for me it will be a quiter shift and break me in gently, ive worked care of the eldery 20 years, and this current post 8 in elderly /terminal care....


its a job i love, get more from it as  ill ever put in, i cant say how much i missed the patients, and it always keeps my head straight, ppl there so much more worse off in health than i ll ever be ,looking forward to getting my usual hugs, part of me knows that a few i ll have nursed a while will have passed away, and while we try to remain deteched, you never master that art when you care, so im bracing myself for that too, wish me luck

Best wishes as you return to the job you love.  That's nice that you can gradually work into your regular 2-night shift.

I'm sure the patients will be happy to see you again.    

You're right, some of the ones you cared for before will no longer be there when you return.  When you are around these patients all the time and invest a part of you into their care you can't help but feel the pain of grieving them when they pass on.  Sending hugs your way to help you thru tonight.

Hoping your first night back is uneventful and quiet.

thnakyou all so much, shift will start tonight, so 5 1/2 hours to d day lol

joe  i understand that partial shifts would be great, but childcare , redeployment and as i dont drive travel would make the benefits outweigh the gain im afraid, this way there are quiet times on shift, an hour break md shift to relax, and far less travel, plus i can work my childcare round it by the kids going to their dads and being in school when i come home and sleep

Wednesday, I, too, feel good vibes about your working tonight.   I miss working very much, but I'm of retirement age anyhow.  I do volunteer one afternoon a week at an aviation museum and it's great to talk with the public again.

Thankyou all SO juch for your thoughts and prayers, they worked!! was quiestest  shift ive had in a long time we hold 25 patients, we only had 18!  so good vibes were right!!

I cant say how much i enjoyed it, and felt like id never been away after a couple of hours

  Typical example of my strange insanity on duty, we have a right character of a wee lady, kept shouting at me and saying im 80 you know,other staff said she is a nightmare,  me being me said well your tongues 20  lol, anymore carrry on i ll tickle you, even she laughed and said oh ive not been tickled in years!! i said well lets put that right and tickled her, she was laughing like a child!!

she gave me the biggest smile and rubbed my face, then said i dont like you you know, i said thats fine honey they ll still pay me she giggled again and asked when i ll be back on......staff were gobsmacked and said all in the approach girls, under the hardest facde lies someone needing loved.staff said  good to have you back, i said blooming good to be back!!
