Visit to the Ortho Surgeon-RE: partial knee replacement

Hi Everyone,
I had a partial knee implant 7 or 8 years ago.  I probably had Sjogrens at the time, but didn't know it.  I have noticed lately that I have "new" pain around the knee and the implant.  I finally made an appt with the ortho doc who did the surgery.  They did several x-rays and he said the implant looked good and while I still had arthritis in my knees, nothing that looks troublesome.  Why the pain then?  It's when I walk and I'm limping.

They have me going for an MRI of that knee to see if something under the implant is wrong.  I will know more after that.  My other knee sometimes starts burning and tingling (PN?), but has been pretty much pain-free since I had the other knee fixed.  I will report back after the MRI takes place.

Hi Lucy 

I'm listening! I've been told my partial knee should be good for 10 to 15 years. I had it done in 2006 - so you've had yours a lot longer. The only thing I can suggest is connective tissue inflammation rather than the joint being wrong - but I'm no doc!!  I was dxd with bursitis when it was actually osteoarthritis - so maybe its bursitis you have now. Hopefully the MRI will tell.

Some days my knees are fine and other days both knees hurt - but nowhere near as bad as just before the replacement. I think I gauge most pain by that now - and it was bad!

Do tell how the MRI goes.

Scottie, my ortho doc said my implant (Zimmer) has a 92% success rate at 10 years, so hopefully I won't need anything done with the implant.  Never thought about connective tissue stuff.  Hmmmmmm.  Lucy

Hang in there Lucy, and I sure hope that the MRI shows what is going on.  I'll keep the old digits crossed that the device is holding and that you'll feel better soon.
