I visited my acupuncturists 2 days ago complaining of severe dry eyes, dry sinuses and skin, and occasional dry mouth.  I also complained of severe fatigue and moderate depression.  He immediately told me after checking my pulse, that it is auto-immune.  Now, mind you, I haven't been officially diagnosed yet, but I have been recently diagnosed with Hashimoto's.

I was given acupuncture and the Chinese herbs:

Gardenia Jasminiodes

and

Gardenia Plus (which contains Gardeniae, Rehmannuae, Corni, Dioscoreae, Alismastis, Bupleuri, Angelicae, Gentiamae, Anemarrhenae, Poria, Plantaginis, Phellodendri, Scutellariae, Glycyrrhizae, moutan).  This special formula was prepared for my TCM  doctor.

The Gardenia Jasminiodes us very bitter.  I have noticed a great improvement so far in my dry eyes.  I used to administer eye drops (LiquidGel) every 3-5 minutes all-day long, now I only administer a few times day.  I also felt pretty good after starting up on TCM again, but weekly appointments will make a true difference.  I hope to continue acupuncture every week until I see great improvement in my autoimmune disease.

In 2006 I started seeing Dr. Lee for autoimmune Hashimoto's, as well as the same symptoms I have having now again -- dry eyes, mouth, etc.  Within a short time started to feel much better, and Hashimoto's went into remission.  I then became pregnant at 41 and delivered my healthy, beautiful daughter at 42!

If you have not considered TCM, give it a try.  Dr. Lee is located in Southern California and I would be glad to give you his contact info.

Hi Dry  :)

I tried acupuncture but it was mainly for a painful, swollen knee. It turned out acupuncture really couldn't help it as it was grade 4 osteoarthritis and I needed a joint replacement.

I did find it helpful for the way I was just feeling generally and I have friend who uses it a lot. She uses it for pain because she can't take NSAIDs and she also takes her family there. I know that chinese medicine helped her son recover from glandular fever.

I would caution anybody if they are thinking about taking herbal remedies to make sure that they don't interact with any meds already prescribed. They could do - so be careful!

I'm glad you've been having success Dry

Take care - Scottie  :)
