PINKEYE!!!

I went to the opthamologist yesterday to get a 6 week check up on my tear duct plugs. Ths morning, I woke up with pinkeye! My boys had it earlier in the week, but I was constantly washing my hands and using Lysol everywhere. With how dry my eyes are, I wonder if the pinkeye will last long even with te treatment? My eye is really goopy, burns, itchy and puffy.
Have any of you been through this since being a SJS? and do you have any suggestions to help besides the special eye drops and warm compresses?

Sorry to hear you have pinkeye.  I've had it before and it isn't any fun!!  I haven't had it since being dx'd with Sjogrens though.  You do have to be careful not to share any towels, etc. with the rest of the family.  Make sure to change your pillow case too.  Also, be careful with your washcloth to the eyes.  When I had it in '07 it started out in one eye and in a couple days went to the other.   

When I had pinkeye I would take a warm cotton ball and clear the goop from my eye and throw it away.  Then wash hands!

Try to stay indoors if possible out of sunlight as that will make it worse.  If you can, maybe just "chill" today and don't do a lot of reading.  Other than the drops and warm compresses I think it just has to run its course.  Hopefully, it will be a quick course!!

I've had goopy stuff when waking.  Here's a neat little trick that helped me lots.  Slice a tomato, cherry is good, just the right size.  Lay it on top of your closed eyelids.  Very soothing, clumps up & kills the bacteria & the acidity is very similar to your eyes.

I have never heard of using tomatoes. I will have to try it. Yesterday my eye looked a lot better. This morning my eye was gooped shut and was horribly red and irritated again. What the heck!?!? This is very frustrating. Should I call my regular dr as he knows all the medsd I'm on, or my opthamologist since she knows what my eyes are doing? I've been great about not sharing anything with anybody. Cleaned the sheets, new towel, ect..... Any ideas? DO you think this could be from the SJS and how bad my eyes are right now from being dry and irritated? Or the meds I'm on for Fibro along with Raynauds and SJS?

Hi Leslie 

Is pink eye the same as conjunctivitis? It sure sounds the same. Any time I or my kids have had conjunctivitis we've always needed an ointment prescribed by the doc to get rid of it. (Possibly drops - i'm not sure) Can't remember what my last kid was given but I was given stuff called 'golden eye ointment' but it was many years ago.

I don't know if it had antibiotic in it or not. I would let any possible eye infection go on for long without seeing a doctor. Hope you get it sorted soon.

I had Pink Eye (conjunctivitis) a few weeks ago.  My ophthalmologist prescribed antibiotic drops.  He said that with sjs one should not mess around, rather treat it ASAP.  The drops ceared it up fast.

I have been using the Vigamox drops that the dr. prescribed to clear it up.  In the past when I've had it, the Vigamox cleared it it up in 3 days. For it to come back on me like this I just wonder if it is the SJS playing and extra role? Scottie- you got it right, conjunctivitis is the same as pinkeye. It is yellow in color and it worked great on my boys. I just am having a really down week few weeks, feeling rough around the edges and really tired. Ugh........
