Anyone with history of high platelets?

I know this is a long shot asking this question but I'm curious about something.  A few years ago, my primary doc put me on 400 ui of Vit E because of high platelet count.  After I was into my Vit E therapy, my platelet numbers dropped and I have been taking this religously since then and they are always normal.

Well a couple of weeks ago, I have ran out of Vit E and I always forget to pick some up at the store.  In this time span I have had 2 intense dizzy spells.  I remember that I would get these but have not had them for some time and I kind of forgot about them until my rude reminder last week.  I have not been to the doctor to check my platelets since all of this happened.

The only thing I have come up with as far as changes is the Vit E.  I really can't think of anything else.  Does anyone know if high platelet counts can cause vertigo or anything that would cause vertigo?  Why else after so long would I just get this again out of the blue, I can't figure it out.

  Hi Dbab,   Can't answer the Vit E question, but I do know that if one has SS one can be prone to dizzy spells..  I had 2 or 3  spells a couple of years back,
 
             i don't see that the lack of Vit E would cause much bother to anyone, unless it was an extreme lack of it...but then I'm no expert... I think you would be


wise to tell your GP about this tho' .. as dizziness should never go unheeded..  Dolly

Dbab, Elevated platelets can put one at risk for blood clots which can also end up as a heart attack or stroke. If It was me I would be getting to the doc ASAP and see if your platelets are elevated or not. Could be some other issue causing the dizziness. It isin't worth the risk not knowing what is going on.

I can't imagine that your doc is not checking your platelets on a regular basis. I would ask him about this and what he thinks is causing it. Higher platelets can also be involved in the AI diseases. Irish

Thanks Dolly and Irish.  I never thought to maybe connect the two until today while I was racking my brain trying to figure out why my vertigo came back all of a sudden.  The only change that I could think of was not taking the Vitamin E for the past weeks (BTW I bought some on my way home today so I'm back on my regimine)

Dolly,  My doc has me on aspirin and Vitamin E as a anti-platelet therapy.  If this didn't work, it would have been a anti-platelet medicine but my doc chose this route first.  Since it brought my platelets in the normal range, he has considered the therapy a success.  So its not too much about not getting enough Vit E as in any kind of deficiency in this case as its used as a therapy only. 

Irish,  My doc was doing regular blood tests.  When I was put on MTX by my rheumy, he made arrangements that my rheumy would monitor this since I have to have blood tests every couple of months.  The last test I had was the end of March and everything was ok (my next blood test is the first week in June).

Again, I really don't know if this is related.  My doctor never mentioned high platelets as a cause for the vertigo before and I really just chaulked it up to a fluke type thing that went away (but really always made me curious).  Since I started getting them again, my detective brain trying to think of what has been different and the only thing I can think of is the Vitamin E so I thought I'd throw it out there to see if it MAY be possible.
