Urinary Tract Infection

Hi everyone,   Well I took Jenna to our local ER and they ran blood tests and a urine test and found out she has a UTI.    This is the 4th one she has had since being diagnosed sjs is this related to her sjs or is something else going on?  They prescribed bactrim and said she should be feeling better in 24 to 48 hrs.     Hugs and Kissess  Jonnell and Jenna

  Jonelle , I certainly think that UTI  can be down to Sjogrens, but with Jenna, it may be a simple reason such as her not emptying her bladder properly..   A couple of years back I had a run of UTI s  and a lady doctor told me to make sure not to rush at toilet , and that  I  squeeze out every last drop,
    I have faithfully followed her advice since, and touch wood have not had one since. It may be harder for a child to follow this advice , but if you make a little game of it , you never know!

I'm so sorry our little angel is not feel well!

I agree the infection could be related to Sjogren's.

Dolly and Janna,  Thanks for the hugs for Jenna she needs them tonight.  Do we know why sjs can cause utis?

There are so many things that can be causing the UTI related to the sjogrens. However, I had a grand daughter that had quite a few UTI's and she did not drink enough water.

It might behoove you to give Jenna a bottle of water to drink every day and see if her urine is lighter in color and if she is urinating more often. So hard for the younger kids to remember to drink enough. Good luck. Irish

I hope your daughter is feeling better.

Almost 3 years ago, my daughter started getting UTIs and the pediatrician sent her for a test that xrays her while running dye through a catheter. It turned out she had mild urinary reflux. We started making sure she voids frequently and drinks more water. Her teacher helps at school to make sure she voids a few times during the day. At least every few hours. She  hasn't had a UTI since changing her voiding habits.

I know Jenna has a UTI but I think there might be more going on she is vomitting every time after she eats and has diaherrea is this normal with a UTI  and she has no fever.  Thank you all for your suggestions.   Hugs and Kissess   Jonnell and Jenna

I think you can have a pretty bad UTI without fever, but I don't think the Gastro Intestinal stuff is commonly related to urinary infection....is it?

It is so hard to tell what is what with tiny tykes!... because they cannot verbalize their symptoms very well either.

Hi Jonnell!

I'm sorry to hear that Jenna is fighting this UTI and having others issues along with it. I don't think the throwing up and diarrhea are related to the UTI, but I'm no doctor....I would call the doc and let him/her know what is going on.

Could she be having a reaction to the antibiotic? Does she have a touch of the flu or ate something that was not good or didn't agree with her? I'm just guessing, but I would definitely let the doctor know.

Thank you guys for the hugs.  She is still not feeling well but hasnt thrown up today thats a good thing.

Hope Jenna's feeling better now Jonnell.  Our dr told Katharine to rock back and forth on the loo (seriously!!) to make sure she fully emptied her bladder.  The diahorrea sounds more like a reaction to antibiotics.  When I was really sick at New Year (my 1st big Sjogrens flare that I thought was flu) one of the best things for settling tums, replacing fluids etc was to warm up lemonade and sip it.  Sounds horrid but it was one of the few things that didn't have me rushing for the loo.

Thank you Alisa you are to I like the term the loo. lol.  She had the problem with the diaherrea before they put her on the anitbiotics.  She has been on plaquinil for 2 weeks Im wondering if the vomitting and runs are a reaction to that.  What do you think.   Hugs and Kisses Jonnell and Jenna

Oh, definitely!  I've been on plquenil 8 weeks and my lot know that when mun says she needs the loo - she NEEDS THE LOO!! I have been known to yell to no 3 son in the bath to put a flannel on it as i'm coming in!  It's more intermittent now but still there.  It's hard for your little one though as the meds are making her feel worse for now.  It's bad enough for adults to accept this but at 4 it must seem very unfair.  Hope it balances out soon xx Ailsa
