sjogrens and SCLE

I was told today by my Rhuemy that I have Sjogrens and Subacute Cutaneous Lupus.....does anyone else have this?
I also have a question about bloodtest.....what is the difference between ana choice and the ana titers?

I was just told I had a SjS/lupus overlap but wasn't given any details as to what kind of lupus. From what I can gather - subacute cutaneous lups falls somewhere inbetween SLE and discoid lupus and is less likely to cause organ involvement but very likely to produce rashes and sun sensitivity.

I'm afraid I'm no good about blood test answers!

Jen, in addition to what Scottie said about SCLE, it's very often associated with Autoimmune diseases like RA and SjS.

I'm not familiar with the term ANA choice, but I wonder if it's a quantitative ANA, as opposed to the qualitative titer...Quantitative gives an actual count in U/L of the antibodies, while a titer is a description of how much a sample can be diluted before the antibody becomes undetectable. For example, diluting the sample 40 times gives a titer of 1:40, the next dilution is one half of that, or 1:80, then 1:160; 1:320 and so on.

If your result is in the #:### format, it's a titer, if its in ### U/L, its quantitative.

It may also refer to the "choice" of different patterns, there are four and the speckled one is common to both SjS and Lupus, while the homogeneous one is more specific to Lupus.

Thank you for your responses.....on my bloodtest results it said positive ana choice and my SSA-RO was positive 2:6
but my ANA titers were 1:40.  Just confused on what that means.  I will have to ask next time I go to the doctor.

Jen.  My 4 year old Jenna has sjs and also some lupus symptoms like sun sensitivity and the butterfly rash after being in the sun or under flourecent lights but they arent quite ready to diagnose lupus.  I think because her double stranded dna test was fine but I still believe she has a overlap.    Hugs and Kisses   Jonnell and Jenna
