itchy, itchy chin

I find that at times I have an extremley itchy chin that I scratch and scratch.  I'm seroneagtive for SS but I'm seeing an open-minded immunologist in August.  I'm hoping to at least have the lip biopsy done since I have many of the symptoms of SS including dry eye confirmed by schimmer testing.  I was wondering if itchiness (on the chin or elsewhere) is a symptom that I should mention to him?

By the way I don't have a rash or anything that explains this itchiness.

Hi Whatsup 

I would mention itchiness to the doc. I've never heard of a specifially itchy chin - but itchy skin - yes - it can go with the territiry. However, itchiness can be caused by stuff unrelated to SjS too - so I'd check it out. Eg hormone imbalance - also liver problems can cause it so its worth checking.

I wonder if it's a kind of neuropathy.

I have a spot at the front right base of my neck (a patch about 3 inches long and 1 inch tall) that itches ALL THE BLOODY TIME!  It makes me nuts and over the past couple years I've noticed the skin has thickened in that area.

It seems to itch more when I am nervous.

It being another type of neuropathy is a good point, I too have a spot on my right shoulder blade in the back that can drive me to tears because it's so had to reach.  And the back scratcher is of little use, ugh, I need a heavy duty back scratcher!

Hi, My first guess would be some sort of nerve involvement.  I haven't had my chin itch but sometimes my top lip and around nostrils do.  Feels like when novacaine is wearing off.  I have trigeminal nerve involvement, and from what I have read facial neuropathy is not terribly uncommon in SjS.

I would double check with your doc but doubt that you'll get much of a reaction from itchy chin unless you have a very interested doctor.  Most docs don't do well with these kind of weird symptoms...and a lot of us have them, so I know it's real and annoying.

With me it's left shoulder blade, just as difficult to get to as Patze describes especially when you're wearing wrist supports.

Hello Whatsup.
      I get an itchy chin, but than my ears itch at the same time. I know its sounds weird. and when I told the Dr. about 23 years ago. he said he wounld not touch it with a ten foot pole. I just thought it was an allergy. It does drive me crazy. I have Sjogrens and Fibermyalgia. Heart problems. At the time I had a Goiter.  I can scratch my chin and it also makes my ears stop itching. Strange hun.

Hi Theres, that is a bit different, but then when I get a "stabbing" pain one place in my body, I sometimes feel it on a different part of my body; but then there is a lot the doctors haven't figured out yet.

Hi Chickpea, that's got to be tough!  Trying to scratch an itch anywhere, but especially on the back!  Carpel Tunnel?  It's got to be the season for wrists hurting, mine have been acting up a bit too.  I sure hope that your wrists feel better soon!

I too get itchy spots on my face, namely my chin and my small area of skin by the outer edge of my eye, but my skin gets red, also when I am in the sun my face gets red patches that itch. weird.
but the thing is I have also developed eczema (which I never had before the SJS thing), so who the heck knows whats going on with us...it's the weirdest thing.

I too have had a very, very itchy chin! I never related it too the Sjs but hey maybe it is! I wake up in the night rubbing my chin on the pillow! It is very annoying i know! It seems to be better since starting the placquinil.
