I was just wondering if anyone has experienced any vision changes with the sjogrens/plaquenil?  I've been on plaquenil for about 3 months or so and I have noticed that when I am outside in the bright sun I notice little sparkles floating all over the place.  It seems to only happen in my left eye.  It's kind of like little fireworks floating all over the place.  I also have a history of migraines, but the neuro didn't seem to think this was related.  Any thoughts?  Gracias!

tmarie, you need to see an ophthalmologist.   Vision change should always be investigated.  Taking Plaquenil has some small chance of causing problems, but if you visit your eye dr regularly, he/she should be able to advise you if Plaquenil is causing the problem.

I've taken Plaquenil for two years and my worst Sjs problem is my eyes.  I went to my ophthalmologist prior to beginning plaq to see if it would be ok.  I visit my ophth 3 or 4 times a year, which is more often than most people.  Don't mess with your eyes.  Lucy

Lucy is right!

You have to get your eyes checked.  I think there is a warning about flashing lights in your vision and Plaquenil.

They put my 4 year old on plaquinil and she has to see the opthmologist every 6 months to make sure its not affecting her eyes.  The Rhumy was very hesitate to put her on it because of the damage it can cause to your eyes.  But Jennas symptoms were so bad we took that chance.

Floating objects accross vision can be caused by many factors.  They are know an 'eye floaters' http://www.youreyeguide.co.uk/floatersflashes/index.html  I had the same thing last year and booked an eye test. The optometrist told me that it should go away on its own, but i still get them.  Does anyone know if they can be serious and if i'll always get them?

Hello
My eye problems with Sjogrens is the worst. I can handle the aches I can't handle not being able to see. I must be in a flare up because my eyes right now are like I have been looking into a light bulb. and esp. my left eye is worst than my right. My eye Dr. sent me to John Hopkins two hours away and getting a ride up there is terrible I can't drive it. I am subposed to do an eye study but the new medicine has not come in yet but the eye specialist wants to see me. I will see if I can get an appt and have my husband take off. I thought maybe the problem would go away today but its still there. I feel for any one that has problems with their eyes. its horrible. I have a hard time just seeing the TV or newspaper. you should see me trying to clean house or sweep the floor!!!!

Thanks, you are very sweet. The Doctor called and I have an appt. on May 6th my hubby is going to take off to take me. My sun glasses help some but I think now that I should not be outside and I love outside. I have always been outside. Its so strange. My eyes right now feel like I looked to long at a light bulb, must be the sun.  I always have itchy shin. I feel like I have bugs crawling on me all the time. But It could be worse. Now about your little one. I am so sorry. It must be very hard. I know cuz I have been sick my whole life and at least now I know after 53 years what it is. But i survived. and I lived out side I was so dark. I have 4 Blond blue eye sisters. and I am dark and green eyes. I look like my dad who has passed on. My brother who has passed on at the age of 16 I look like him. He had a brain tumor in 1969 before all the neat stuff that would fix it today. My mother always had me to many doctors. They said I would never have kids. I have 3 and 2 grandchildren. Ha. fooled them. SO Doctors don't always know what they are talking about. My Grandchildren, a boy 5 years and a girl 1 year. I worry about them having this stuff. But they seem OK. My 28 year old daughter who thinks she knows it all, is having some stuff and my 26 year old daughter has Fibermyalgia. I am sure all three of my kids have it also but!!!! When I was pregnant with my 24 year old son. I had a goiter(Thyroid). I didn't even know I was pregnant and I has an xray done and drank some nuckleare med. and boy when I found out I was pregnant, the Dr. did a sonogram Thank goodness I was only 9 weeks because if I were any more pregnant than that I don't even want to think about it. I went with my 26 year old daughter to her sonogram for my grand daughter because they thought she might have sf. Thank God she is OK only a carrier. They did a 4 D sonogram. Wow she looks just the same it was so cool. She will be a year on May 5th. My daughter and her husband were both carries of sf and didn't know it. they had to go to some Gene specialist down in Richmond, Va. Found some cool stuff about our Genes. Good Luck with everything and give your daughter a big hug from me I love children so much. My grandchildren are my life, and my grown kids, but sometimes my grown kids are brats and I would love to move away for the day.

Thank you for your lovely note, Theresa especially when you are feeling so poorly!

Your remarks about my child were meant for Jonell whose daughter is Jenna.  I have copied and forwarded to her.

However it is nice to learn of your siblings and children.  I (like my father) am the only red head with very dark brown eyes.  My sister and 2 brothers are blonde, blue eyes like my mother!  What a funny coincidence!

I have 2 grown sons that I (like you) worry will someday have autoImmune disease or have children with it.

Neither are married yet.

You are the dearest of dears,
Janna

Hello Jannalee
First of all I spelled your name wrong. My daughters name is Jennifer. You look too young in your photo to have grown kids. I am sorry about the mix up. All my kids names start with a J. I must really like Js. Thanks for forwarding my message on.

Hi Trector.    Wow u sure have been thru alot.  You sound like a very strong person.  Thank you for caring about my little one Jenna.  I have 3 children a 16 year old girl and a 13 year old son and Jenna.   My son has some as the same problems as Jenna and is also high functioning autistic.  My oldest daughter is just a typical 16 year old pain in the butt(I love her though).  Where do you live?  Do you go to the John Hopkins in Balitimore.  I was thinking about taking Jenna there.  We live in South Jersey and Jenna currently goes to A I Dupont Hospital for children in Deleware.  I aslo lost a full term baby boy he would of been 14.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.   Hugs and Kisses      Jonnell and Jenna
