opthamologist

[wednesday mc haggis]

i got to see the opthomologist yesterday didnt take that long to get the apointment, funny how if a rheumy sends you its quicker eh ??

   schimmer test very dry was all i was told, and evaporation time of tears usually 10 seconds, and mines is 2.  he said i see its possible sjogrens so, we shall get you some relief, gave me about 7 products there and then and told me pick ones you like best, and i ll write to GP to tell them to give you ones that you like best yay!! means i wont have to argue with them to get the one that works and not the cheapest.

   last night was first time pain behind my eyes went and gave me some peace.i used them all but found the tears naturale were just about same as hypromellose, rubbish and dont last,the viscotears was good but a little more messy.but the celluvics are just fab!! how i love that product!

   rest i thought were good if your eyes were a bit dry,  but not for us sjoggies . I got lacrilube and i used that last night and this morning was first time in a while i didnt wake up with crusts on my eyelashes. isnt funny how just some relief in one symptoms gives us so much happiness

  Now waiting maxillo facial next week to see about the lip biopsy, but when i got my date in it said it was mr hammersley i used to work in ENT as a student, and i know nick hammersley, he is a very funny gregarious gay chap,i really liked him  ,  and a very good oral surgeon, so thats set my mind at rest  if i have to have it done, then least its not some idiot doing it and my chances of numb lip are greatly reduced, phew!!

now i think my bad luck with doctors is over, taken many years to get here, but my opthamologist was a lovely chinese man with a noticable stammer, and wasnt some ego who dismissed my need for relief, really took time to explain everything and said if no joy he would put plugs in my eye ducts but only as last resort.

  my rheumy is lovely and has a sens eof humour and about my age and she looked genuinely upset to tel me it was sjogrens but cant officially dx you until i get the lip biopsy, i laughed and said your not upsetting me i already know what it is, just darn glad someone lsitenned to me. Now how often do you see a doctor looking sad to give someone bad news?? im a nurse and its a rare event so im over the moon to have her and told her so. my oral surgeon is a top bloke, and my new GP is great,   why oh why couldnt i have found these ppl years ago ??

      i truly wish i could share them all with the ppl here that get fobbed off, all i can say is keep the faith and keep trying, for its not us its the bad docs out there

Well that sounds like another good appointment. I like celluvisc too but my eyes aren't as dry as your so I don't need to use it all the time. It does feel good when it goes in when my eyes are having a bad spell though!

That's great news!  What a difference it makes when we meet 'human' medics ... so why do so few of them take the time to treat us with a little bit of kindness?  If only they were in our place, just for a day, they'd realise how much it helps.
