Jenna,
Tannin is a natural substance found in many fruits.  Grapes have the highest amount and it is why so many wines are based on grapes.  It's in the peel and it's the bitter that you taste.  They are also high in apples and tea.  I suffer from hemacromatosis (iron poisoning)  my body doesn't filter out the iron but instead I store it.  If I drink tea with meals that have a higher iron content, the tannin help block the iron absorbsion in my system.

So if you drink lots of tea, eat fruits and don't have this reaction.  I doubt very much that it is from tannin.  The sulfates are known to cause many people stomach and allergic responses.  If you really want to have a sip of wine.  A store that specializes in various wines can offer you a selection of organic wine that is made naturally without harmful additives.

I would however ask your doctor first and see what they advise.

Janna, If I remember correctly the term "tachycardia" is used to describe a heart rate over 125/beats per minute. It is not uncommon to have anxiety and have a high heart rate AND I can go along with the wine deal because I, too, suffer when I drink wine. However, there are sjoggies who have had problems with rapid heart rates related to the autonomic system. I don't know if you doc is aware of that.

Maybe it is time to find a new GP( I assume this is your GP). I know that up in the North Woods of our fair state the towns are spread out and you have to drive further for medical care. Think of it as a "scenic" trip. I haven't been up in the Duluth area for about 15 years or so. Every time we get up there Duluth has changed a lot. I was heartbroken when the really great Chinese restaurant burned down years ago.

Hope you get this straightened out. Maybe more that an EKG is in order. Have you ever seen a cardiologist???? Let us know how you are doing. And HEAVEN HELP YOUR STUPID LAZY DOCTOR!!!!! :o iRISH ;D

HEY JANNA,

Wow!  you have gotten a bunch of advise.

Wine, menopause, anxiety mix them all together and then factor in that no good DOC , I hope things are better by now.

I do hope you check it out with the DOC, hopfully you find a different DOC though.

You don't need DOC anxieties on top of this problem. And certainly do not drink a glass of cheap wine before you go see him.
