Is it time for a new Dr - Any recommendations on the north side of Sydney.

Hi Everyone,

My daughter is 18 and was diagnosed with SJS nearly two years ago. She has been seeing an immunologist who at first seemed ok but she has had no success with Plaquenil or Prednisone so is not on any medication to treat her symptoms.

It has been a very stressful 2 years for my daughter, dealing with chronic illness, finishing High School, she recently had to defer Uni as she was too tired to put in the effort. She's unhappy with life at the moment particularly her skin rashes & weight gain (she used to be very sporty).

At her last appointment the Dr asked if she was depressed... OF COURSE SHE IS... she's 18 years old, feels like crap all the time and life as she knows it has changed forever. Anyway, he referred her to a Psychologist who has now put her on anti depressants ( at least they help her sleep).

He didn't do any blood tests to see if anything had changed - her last blood tests we done in June 08 and she still isn't on anything to treat the SJS.

Do you think it's time to find a new Dr.

Hi there 

Yes - I think it is time to find a new doctor. Is she on any meds at all, like preservative free eyedrops and painkillers? Most of us see a rheumatologist and then add other ologists as we need to!

Has she had a blood test to rule out thyroid involvement?  Prednisone can pile the lbs on but so can an underactive thyroid.  Maybe a dermatologist copuld have some input on skin rashes.  Also check out her anti ds because some of them can dry you out worse.
