An Update on Me

Well its been a while since I first had symptoms... last September... and I thought I would give you an update as it is looking likely that it is not SS according to the consultant at the hospital..

It started with swollen saliva glands which were very very painful, flu like symptoms, general aches and pains, fatigue, breathless etc etc, which lasted around six to eight weeks... I then got dry eyes and mouth..... slowly the symptoms subsided to where I am today..

Back to normal apart from I would say 5% loss of moisture in mouth and eyes only.

Was at hospital yesterday and the consultant said nothing is showing on all the blood tests I had done since September (about six blood tests).  I had another blood test done and told I would get an appointment in August and if that is all clear he is writing it off as a virus ...

What do you think?  I know SS can lurk, but should I just put it down to a virus like the consultant and if it ever comes back, then I know it was something else?

I had something similiar happen about 12 years ago. Just keep it in the back of your head, that your symptoms could return and to keep a check on things. I kept a check on my ANA for several years with no symptoms, but now I have SJS. I hope things keep to normal.

Hi Fluffiebunnie  :)

I agree with the others. You may well have gone into remission. It can happen. It's great to know that you're feeling better than you did anyway.
I'm not a doctor though. Maybe it WAS a virus. I don't know all the ins and outs of what can attack us at different times. I hope you continue to improve and feel better.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Hi Fluffie,

I'll fourth what the others said! :D  It might be that you're in remission and I can't say one way or another (and if you are, that would be wonderful!), but I'm sure glad that you're feeling better too!

Take care -

Patze

Thanks for your replies everyone... yes I am so happy I feel a lot better.. a little dryness I can put up with... I will go with the flow and make the most of feeling well.  If this ever pops up again then we all know it was more than a bad viral attack.  Until that time, I will enjoy it!
