More infection! An update!

Hi folks, Just an update on me and my infections. Just finished my month of doxycycline and difucan the end of Feb for the MRSA and yeast that I had. I was having mucus issues in my sinuses, etc and was wondering what was changed in that area. Things happen so much with my 10 year battle with mucus that I can't keep up.

I have been feeling crappy( a medical term don't cha know) for much of the winter so who can tell what is going on with me. Do the nebs 2x's daily along with my vest and was supposed to do the CPAP. However, I have not been able to do the CPAP as I had so much mucus I was on and off with the mask, etc.

Monday I felt some worse than usual but went to the dentist and the grocery store. One of those trips where you can hardly make it home and the grocercies sit til you are able to put them away. Tuesday woke up with the most horrible sinus stuff going on and sounded like I was in a barrel when I talked. Wednesday I was really sick and spent 4 days mostly in my recliner. In fact, I felt so horrible that I didn't change clothes for 4 days.

I got Biaxin from my immunologist on Wed and called back on Friday and had to do the sputum culture plus they ordered Flagyl tabs orally for bacteria that thrives both with or without air. Mic---zole can't spell the generic right now. This was an infection right up there with the worst I have had. Lungs with the deepest more horrible cough I have ever had. Thank goodness for the vest and the nebs cause they helped. I coughed up and irrigated and blew out most of my brains and could almost be measured in cups---sorry I'm so graphic.

Today the culture is back and it was that darn Klebsiella again. I have had that so many times in the last year. This time it was very sensitive to doxy so back on that. I could almost run a drugstore of antibiotics out of my bathroom. I get started on meds and then they get changed. It works out though cause then I will have some to start up when can't get to the drug store right away.

Also, I had my last infusion last week with my new product. I had the third infusion of the Privigen and I have felt so much better this past week. If I wasn't so darn sick(sure makes sense!?!) I would have been able to get more done. I am basing this on the fact that I didn't have a myasthenia relapse during this infection-which is very common. I am wondering if I would have been more sick if I hadn't just had the infusion.

Now, the other thing I am wondering is if there is a bad flu going around. I felt like I was getting a bad flu with a slight cold. I am wondering if it just happened that the Klebsiella got kicked up a notch by my infection. Having all this stuff is sure a crapshoot isn't it. Take care all. My goodness Irish-you've had a terrible time of it!  I'm glad that you're feeling better, but so sorry that you've had a tough time of it.  I hope you continue to feel better and rid yourself of all those cooties.

Hi Irish-

You sure have quite a report to give us.  I have not heard of most of this stuff.  It does sound that things are getting better--and by all means, they should be!  With all the meds, the CPAP, the vest and other paraphenalia.........(I like that word, but never know if I spell it right.).

cant say im pleased to hear any of this, you cope amazingly well, how i just dont know.

  Its nightmare on elm street ,dont know what to say about it all, but you are looong overdue a break, hoping the spring brings some relief to you and some sleep.

You sure have been in a horrible place. I hope you are feeling some light at the end of the tunnel now.

I know Doxy is a wonderful drug, but it's not the most pleasant to take, so taking it for a whole month must seem like a penance.

There has been a horrible flu-bug type of illness going around in the UK. My hubby had it, and has had a terrible cough for about6-8 weeks. Maybe that has crossed the pond too?

Ooof Dah, Irish!

My husband has been down with the flu and a terrible cough for almost a month now.  Since we only live about 4 hours away from you, I'd guess it's bitten you too.

Your logic about getting sick with a virus which gave a leg up to the Klebsiella is spot on.  It makes perfect sense don't cha know!

I'm sorry for this, my dear.  The new IVIg stuff is real good news and I'm so thankful you happened to start it when all this happened.

I wonder if a study clinic at Mayo, you know if they could work you up and study you real well maybe they could come up with something.

You just never seem to get a break. I'm really sorry to hear you've been feeling so lousy - and nothing ever seems to knock it right on the head. I think you're amazing because you always seem to find a positive along with all the awful stuff you're putting up with.

Thanks for the update.  My heart goes out to you and I'm so sorry you're suffering with all this.  I can just imagine how dreadful you must have been feeling in your recliner - a blessing although I know it is - unable to get showered and dressed.  Days just run into each other when you're that unwell. 

Is the MRSA under control now?  I've recently added MRSA to all my other 'gifts' after spending two days in hospital for head surgery after a bad fall.  My doctors don't seem to be able to agree on a protocol for treating it, and one doctor said it's patients who are to blame for MRSA.  Apparently if none of us ever went into hospitals then they'd be clean places!  Helpful, huh?!

I really admire the way that whenever you're well enough you post really helpful answers to people's queries, thoughtful and detailed.  You have such a strong spirit and you're such a shining example to us all.

Hey Lucy, Line up behind my hubby if you think I am ornery!!!! Honestly, after 44 1/2 years we just sort of ignore each other at times. Heck, you just have to each hunker down with your ailment and endure. Isn't much the other spouse can do other than support and cook a meal/do dishes now and again.Sure doesn't help to take the weight of the others illness on your shoulder.

And yes, I have to be ornery---the other option is just plain stupid! I totally lose track of all the antibiotics I have been on and have to keep a calendar on the kitchen bar so I can write down when I start a new one and why. Last night was another hard night with up coughing and spitting and what all til around 4 AM. I went to bed about 3 PM thinking I was all done with it and it just kept on---so I thought better head for my recliner so I didn't disturb hubby. I listened good and I could hear him going Puuuuuu, Puuuuuuuu, Puuuuuuuu-----just a sleeping away. How he sleeps through all my noise and restlessness I will never know.

Thanks for all the posts you guys. I have improved considerably and have continued to maintain a much better energy level and my cough is almost gone. I just started the doxy today so time will tell what will happen. I still say that life can really be funny at times. Even when you feel like you are going to die time marches on. You can stand and look out at the stars in the night and remind yourself that the earth, stars, moon, days and night just keep on coming one after the other. Very comforting indeed. Hugs all. Irish

P.S. Lucy, something else that I always think of is after working as a nurse all those years. God really has a sense of humor allowing me to have all this mucus. I HATED cleaning up mucus----thought it was so gross and now it is me. I think I need a spitton for Christmas.
