Does anyone know if there is a connection with warts and autoimmune disorders.  My 4 year old has sjs and keeps coming up with warts in weird places.  She has them on her knees and fingers one on her arm.

As warts are virus based I would have thought there could be a connection between them and autoimmune.  I have very tiny white warts in all sorts of places and they have definitely increased since my first SJS flare.  How sad that your little one has this disorder so young.  I do find that my warts disappear over a very long period of time and then reappear somewhere else.  Occasionally I have a full blown wart, but again they may be there for a few years and then they disappear - I don't treat them.  It might be a good idea to get your Dr.s advice.

Thank you Beverely and JannaLee.  My daughters name is Jenna lol.  I thought she was a little young for warts all over the place so I wondered if there was a connection.  JannaLee do you have sjogrens you look so young when were you diagnosed.  You are very pretty by the way.    Thank you both for your help.

Thank you so much Jonnell, I was diagnosed about a year ago, but looking back over my life I would guess I have had Sjogren's since my teens.

I'm 47 years old and betting I have socks older than YOU, sweetie!!

I noticed your daughter's name right away and have read all your posts about her.  We folks on this site are very protective of the little ones and many of us are thinking about her and sending up prayers on her behalf.

I hate to hear of a child so young having sjogrens. The good thing is that there are more things that can be used to treat it now. I think that autoimmune diseases can cause strange things to happen to us and cause more warts, etc. However, it might be wise to get your daughter's white blood cells checked for t-cells and IgG, etc. These are blood tests and there are more tests that can be run but I don't know the name of all of them.

Reason being is that some people can have immune deficiencies that can cause them to have more infections. I have low t-cells and besides all the infections I have had an abundance of skin tags that I have had to have burned off many times- Like 100 at a time. Low and behold, my immunologist told me that my skin tags are caused by a virus. I am on IVIG (IV immune globulin) once a month and have just changed the type of product that I receive and my skin tags are becoming less. To me that means that this new product is working better than the other 2 I was on.

Just wanted you to be aware of this. Also, have you tried putting the duct tape on the warts??? That is one of the new things the docs are advising now. Seems that the tape starves the warts of oxygen and they die. You would have to ask your doc or even try googling to see what is said about it. Seems like you leave the tape on so many days and then take it off and do something else. Good Luck. Irish

intresting reading this, at 7 i was dx with dry eye syndrome,my nose was also dry, and crusty used to get a right telling off for picking at it lol, about the same time i had small clusters of warts on my fingers , all around the nail bed, was embarassing, doctor said they would just disappear one day , strangely i woke up one day i think about 10 years old, and they had vanished!

  cant say if it was an SJS thing , but certainly can confirm that i had multipe warts at same time as my eyes and nose went dry on me.

I am so sorry your young daughter has this illness.I've never had a wart myself.My DH had one on his thigh and I told him about duct tape as irish explained.He had it for yrs. and finally stuck it on there.A couple of weeks he pulled off the tape and along with it came the wart.It really does work as silly as it sounds.

Hi everyone

This is a really interesting thread.  I've never had warts although one of my sons had them occasionally as a teenager.  We didn't use duct tape, although I've since heard that's good.  The advice we got was to tape banana skin on to the wart.  Seriously!  You cut a little square of banana skin and use surgical tape to keep it in place, skin side up.  Apparently it contains the same chemicals as many of the paints you can buy to dry warts out, not sure which one I'm afraid.

Skin tags - thanks Irish for this information.  I've had them for the past ten years or so, similar time to SjS I suppose.  But I never knew they were linked with a virus.  Do you know which one?

Jonnell - I hope little Jenna is coping with yet another difficulty.  As Janna says, she's in our thoughts and prayers.

Jonell and Jenna,

after posting last time, I suddenly remembered that many of my children (I am a teacher) have also had warts which Dr.s have said they will grow out of - a juvenile condition.  So this may also be a possibility.

I was diagnosed with SJS after having gone through the menopause, but when I look back I recognise lots of things from when I was a young girl that fit with the disorder.  Of course there is a tendancy to make all sorts of connections with hindsight!

what an odd thread, I was plagued by warts for a few years..

Went to a dermatologist to get them frozen off. He told me to use duct tape because it works better
and they don't come back and hurts less.

LOL so that isn't a myth, it works really well.

Skeptical I did, and every one of them went away.   HEHE funny but true

Is there a link, maybe.

You have to wonder though, if it is the autoimune that causes warts to form or...... is it the warts that sends
the immune system into overdrive getting rid of them and in the mean time attack itself and causes a Autoimmune
situation.

Hi Dave how are you?  Do you have sjogrens?  Because my son who is 13 has alot of the same symptoms as Jenna as well as the warts they both had the epstein barr virus as children,  they both have no saliva in the mouth and are both prone to every infection under the son.  She is 4 and was diagnosed with sjs.  But hes a boy and they tell me the sjs is a womens disease what say you.  Jonnell and Jenna
