hi all

just wondered if any of your take any health supplements and whether they helped, for instance omega fish oils, aloe vera, glaucosomine etc.  I would really like to take something to aid my health particularly my joints but am i right in thinking we should be cautious to take anything that "boosts the immune system" so very wary of taking anything.  Do fish oils do this and has anyone had any advice from their rhuemie's.  im really confused so any advice/experiences would be great

My rheumatologist advised me to take 3000 mg of fish oil for inflammation and 1000 mg of Vitamin D for bones.

Hope this helps.

Fish, flax, or other oils (or Omega 3,6&9) have been recommended for their antiinflammatory properties, and many people take Vitamins in varying combinations, or other supplements that they have found to be helpful. My only caution would be to discuss all alternative or supplemental treatments with your rheumy and also with your pharmacist if you take any RX drugs, because there could be interactions that the pharmacist would be more aware of.

You're correct in being cautious about anything that claims to "boost" the immune system, but some supplements actually "regulate" rather than boost.
