Hi everyone. Still fairly new to Sjs. So im curious to know if having this disease means i will never be able to drink alcohol again?

Well, the first consideration would be the interaction with any meds you are taking.  The second thing to think about is the fact that alcohol has a tendency to dry you out, but I don't think that an occasional drink is a problem as long as there is no reaction to your meds.  My doctors have never said no drinking.

I use to be very social on a weekly basis meeting friends at local bar for a few on weekends.  I was diagnosed in November 2007 and tried to keep up the social meetings however I found if I did it I payed for it for anywhere from 2-7days of Course Depending on how much I drank.  I actually choose not to bother as I value feeling better.   i Can no longer tolerate loud music as it made it hard for me to hear the conversation as I notice I kept asking people to repeat themselves, which I think annoyed me more then them.

Hi  :)

I still do social drinking. Not as much as I used to - but I still do it.  :)

Take care - Scottie  :)

Never do tomorrow what you can put off till the day after tomorrow!

Me too.  It's just your choice and how you feel afterward.

I went out with friends after a class this week and had 2 drinks.  The next day my tongue was pretty sore, but it's fine now.

It's important to me that I (at least) seem like my old self to my friends.

Since I'm on methotrexate, plaquenil, cancer meds, and a long list, I do not drink anything.  I always worry about getting sick or something and having to go to the hospital with the smell of a brew or something on my breath and they think "oh yeah."  If I really wanted to drink a beer, I would, but just haven't since I've been on all these meds the past two years.

Lucy, you really tickle me sometimes~ the way you say things!

Mari-- To me half my symptoms feel like a bad hangover so over  the past years I've just chose not to feel worse. I think I've had 2 drinks probably in the past 6 months. I like my diet pepsi max, my only bad vice in my life, can't take that from me.-Net

I just cant face it, i cant say why its not that ive faced the hangover , just feel an aversion toward alcohol, god i used to love a good drink lolol.

I do know that at christmas, my friend i call my brother seen i was shaking and looking ill basically , and talked me into a few nips of irish whiskey , boy the heat i felt in me did me good, but since, i just cannot face it, cant say why. saying that i started the candida diet, and im not allowed any since the sugars feed the candida, so maybe the cant face it feeling is a good thing lol

I get the feeling it's the type of alcohol which aggravates the dryness.

For example, for me white wine is better than red. Don't know why, but red gives more drying out...
My saliva flow is so dryed up I always have to chew gum besides taking Salagen, even when drinking wine. It's a little off putting, but I think I got the hang of it after six years...  ;)

(Don't know about beer or the hard liquors as I don't take them).

I haven't had alcohol in so many yrs.I miss a nice cold beer in the summer or a nice wine with dinner.Last time I had a drink my face turned bright red and I could feel the heat coming up my neck.I either developed an allergy or it's med related.I felt so uncomfortable that it was better to just give it up altogether.

I still like wine in the evening at dinner time.  I live in the California wine country so its a requirement!

The folks in my family love beer.... so I do drink one or two a summer....but I get so warm that it isn't a good feeling so I say away from it most of the time...

Now this winter my hubby got some crown royal... I mixed it with coke... On the weak side but I did enjoy that one....I didn't get that warm feeling but maybe because my body was cold from it being winter....LOL

Maybe it's because I tend to sip frequently, but I can't handle the adult beverages real well any more.  I can drink one, maybe two glasses of wine, but that's it.   A well made mixed cocktail on ice usually is so refreshing that I want to drink up, and before you know it, I'm buzzed.  Part of the problem too is that my stomach doesn't expand like it used to, so I can't accomodate a lot of liquid (or food) at one time.  If I have more than one margarita, for instance, I will undoubtedly vomit---kinda takes away the happy feeling one gets from a couple of cocktails :(
