Hi everybody, was at my denturist today...broke my plate  ...anyway I was asking about other products available for dentures/parcials...my  issues with my plates is that when I'm not feeling too good the tissues in my mouth swell, and boy my mouth burns and swells.......he told me that there is supposed to be only about 2% of the population that has an allergy/problem with the ? (my words the "pink plasticy/acrylicy") kind of denture material. But he did tell me about a company that is supposed to be or has come up with a new material that is completely organic/allergy free. He told me to look up Biotene. I did and I haven't seen anything about the new denture material but I found out they do a whole line of dry mouth defence products, from toothpaste, to mouthwash, mouth rinse etc and it is supposed to help control the bacteria that causes the irritation and burning. Maybe my problem is just a dry mouth thing and not an allergy?? Or maybe it's because my mouth tissue is inflammed like the rest of me during those times??? Anyone heard of Biotene or used the products? Makes sense as it contains Xylitol a natural sugar that does not promote bacterial growth. I can't answer your question because I don't wear dentures but I've certainly seen Biotene products recommended in here before. I bought some of the toothpaste and really like it but its quite expensive.

I've been using the Biotene products (mouthwash and toothpate) I think since summer.  Had asked the hygenist about what they would recommend and she said my mouth wasn't bad enough yet but when it did get bad I would get Control X.  Well I decided to try the Biotene on my own and during my last cleaning she said that my gums had the least bleeding they ever had.  Just a little bit on the top. The best she'd ever seen them.  Didn't tell her about the Biotene.  So I can only assume that it is helping.  Maybe next time if the trend continues I will bring it up.  I've switched to their PBF toothpaste and mouthwash. And I brush and floss right after breakfast and lunch and maybe an hour after dinner.  Also use their SuperSoft Toothbrushes. I don't have dentures though.

  Sandra, I use the biotene oralbalance gel for night time. It lasts quite well and is better than anything I have ever had.
     I chew sugar free gum, or suck sugar free mints to help keep my mouth kinda moist, as I too have dentures and will certainly look into this product Dry mouth denture grip that Lighthouse writes about.    It's a never ending quest  ain't it?    Good Luck, Dolly.

I have been using the Biotene toothpaste, mouth wash, mouth spray and chewing gum.
I've been using the toothpaste for over a year now following my gum disease surgery in Dec 2007.

I've found the best price for the toothpaste at Target, somewhere around $5.50.
My gum disease was a surprise brought on by SJS.
My dentist has been very pleased with my dental cleanings ever since I started using the Biotene toothpaste.


The periodontist also said I could use the xxxxxx mouth wash by Crest because it was alcohol free.
So I've been using that since it's cheaper.

Ive tried several of the Biotene products as well...I especially liked the mouthwash although I agree it is a little pricey.

I do not have dentures, but I do have experience using Biotene.  I had been using the Biotene mouthwash off and on for a couple of years.  Since I was officially diagnosed with Sjogren's in March and my first visit to the dentist in 6 years, I have started using the toothpastes and gum as well.  The toothpastes are pricey, but I buy them at Walmart when they have them and they are around $5-6 per tube.  I've tried both the regular dry mouth paste and the PBF gel.  I think I like the PBF gel better, so I keep the paste at work.  I find they last longer because I use an Oral B Professional Care electric toothbrush so I only have to use a pea-sized amount every time I brush.  I have noticed marked difference in how my mouth feels for a while after I brush.  It doesn't burn like it did when I used regular toothpaste.  I also use Rx Colgate Prevident 5000 for dry mouth at night.

I have a partial made of plastic and metal and have had no problems since having Sjogrens with it.  I also use Biotene tooth paste and sometimes the mouth rinse.  That stuff all gets expensive, for sure.  If you think the Biotene is causing problems, try just a regular toothpaste or mouthwash for a month or so and see what happens.  Lucy
