Prayers for my Dad

I was awoken around 5:30 AM this morning by my mom saying that my dad was going to the hospital.  He had back surgery for cervical spondylotic myelopathy last week at a hospital an hour and a half from here.  Today his arms were numb, he lost control of his kidneys, loss of balance and a little back pain.

Surprisingly I was very calm when I called 911 and talked first to the dispatcher and then to the med tech.  The paramedic thought that he had some swelling.

So my mom is at the hospital now, I'm waiting for some news.  Sure they will contact his neurologist and cardilogist who are both local and the surgeon who is out-of-town.  Suspect they may have to send him back to where he had the surgery.  Hope they can treat him here.

Whatever happens, I have to be here at home to take care of the cat.  If he is put under any stress he goes crazy and starts pulling his hair out so much so that he bleeds etc.  We give him Buspar, a human medication used for OCD disorder when he gets like that.

Am going to eat some breakfast, try to go back to bed to get some rest in case I go up to visit him today, that is if he stays here.

My mom returned home around noon.  They had done a of bunch of tests and now we are waiting on a call from the nurse with the results.  She said it would be an hour and its been two and a half.  In that time period we've cleaned up the soiled bed.  Had to throw out the matress pad.  He will have to do without until we get to Bed Bath & Beyond.  I guess they will have to make a decision as to what to do and whether he will spend the night, come home or go elsewhere.

I will go back for a visit with my mom after we get the call.  Just have to remember to take some food and my medications.

We just brought him home.  All the tests were fine.  He is still very unsteady and we are very concerned that he will fall.  After the surgery he has had if he falls it would be devastating.  My mom and I alone cannot handle caring for an adult male.  If he would fall or need help getting up we couldn't do the lifting.  It might be time for him to go in an assisted living facility until he recovers.  This is what one of our friends did.  She couldn't care for her husband and he went to one for awhile.  He is to make an appointment with the surgeon and do follow up with him.  So it looks like another trip is in store shortly.
