My newest gift from Sjogrens (as Pooh so nicely calls it) has been my glands under and in front of the ear and down the jawline being sore and slightly swollen. It goes in spurts...its not constant but they hurt so bad right now. I know others here talk about gentle massage...and I do that when they are sore and also use my heated rice pack around my neck...it feels so soothing!

This time they are so sore that I cant even move my head from side to side without them hurting....do others of you experience this as well when your glands are sore?

Pooh

Good grief Kiddo, how much more will hit you this week?  I was hoping your foot/ankle were going to heal up, now you have this new gift. :(

I hope with the massage and heat this too will give up quickly.  I have this on the right side of my head/neck from time to time and yes it hurts to move my head or even sleep on that side.

Take care and Happy Valentine's Day.

I have that problem with one of my glands and went to the Dr.  I have a bad infection in that gland or the lymph node, and my Dr. put me on some powerful antibiotics.  She said its a bad infection and most people end up in the hospital its a very serious infection.  Maybe you have this infection in your body and can't get rid of it thats why your glands get big and sore from time to time.  Should you maybe go to your family Dr and get this checked out?

Just a suggestion.......I would hate to see you get any sicker

Lynnmarie, I know that some people have really horribly swollen glands during flaress without infection. It is amazing how enlarged these glands can get. It seems they just fill up with white cells at this time.

I have been having more problems with flares in the neck area the past 6 months but I don't have terrible pain. I do have pain in my ears frequently and I think it is from the swollen glands pressing on my eustacian tubes. I get such a congested feeling in my ears with pressure. I have found over the ears that some antihistamine helps at times--just a sudafed, etc. Also, I have had good luck with the heat and ibuprofen. It is amazing what ibuprofen or Aleve does for this type of pain. The pain of inflammation.

I can't gie you any significant advice since I have never had huge glands. All I know is that if this is something you feel needs to be seen by the doc it is the wise thing to do. You know your "gut" feelings. Good luck. Irish ;D

Mine don't ever seem to go down.  Sometimes larger than other times but always swollen.  Luckily they don't get too sore.
I've tried the massage thing and all but never seems to help.

Hi Lynn,

Yep, mine often get painful (especially under the jaw line), but don't swell, go figure - it seems I always have to be a bit different! ;)

I use heat and it seems to lessen the pain until the next time I get a chill, and it starts hurting again.

I'll keep my digits crossed for you and I sure hope that you start feeling better soon!  You deserve a break today my friend!

Take care -

Patze

few months back before SJS was mentioned, my gland on neck where that swollen and sore i felt like someone had their hands round my throat and when i moved my head to the side their grip tightnened , thought i has angina and was pretty scared, docs seems unbothered . Its comes and goes, but not been quite so bad since, ive had gland problems to years and ENT discharged me saying no more we can do there is no infection , , that was 19 years ago, and its been on and off since, why no one ever thought SJS with my dry eye history i dont know, but then neither did i .the scottish swear for anything throat or cold related by a hot toddy , its whiskey, some hot water and a spoon of honey, by godness it put a heat in your throat  and relieves the pain for a good while and helps a good sleep, i dont have a toddy often, but if its at night and its bad, why it works i cant say but it does, sorry your feeling poorly with this it really is miserable

Lynne-

I'm a bit confused (not that hard these days as the brain fog is pretty thick).  Are you talking about the parotid gland or something else?  My parotids have both been swollen in the last few days to the point where I was wondering if I had another ear infection.  I'm having an arthroscopy of my knee on Wednesday, and definitely don't need to have an infection that would mean postponing the surgery. My knee has been swollen since mid-December and I'm getting really tired of it.

My parotid swelling is especially noticeable right in front of my ear and around the curve of my jaw and under it as you move front. I have a real sore spot in the area where the parotid gland releases saliva, too.

If  I'm talking about the right gland, then yes, I have times when they hurt enough to make moving my head painful. I have pain when I turn my head right now, but I'm not sure if it's the swollen parotids or just my muscles being in spasm following a trip to NY this past weekend.  My body is a mess from the trip. At least we had a really good time.

I hope whatever you have going on gets better quickly,
Tracy
