Hi T  :)

Thanks for posting the link. That does look interesting. I like green tea and will seriously consider drinking more of it.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Very interesting study indeed! Thanks for posting it. I've always enjoyed my green tea, I wonder what doses of the active ingredient were used in the study.

Studies like this one, which start out looking for answers for one Autoimmune disease and end up with results for another, are yet another indicator of how closely entwined the immune response diseases really are. Many treatments for one disease came from researching another.

I'd still be cautious of adding the "pure form" green tea antioxidants supplements rather than just drinking the tea, because we really don't know how supplements interact with medications, and there is one documented interaction of green tea blocking the effect of one of the biologic cancer treatments (Velcade) which is a proteasome inhibitor similar in chemical makeup to some of the biologics used in treating AI...and the vicious circle strikes again!

Hi T,

Yes I read about the study too.... Been drinking a gallon of green tea every day since about two months ... but, you've probably guessed it, no let up by now.

I did try taking the tea extract capsules, and find they have a soothing and calming effect on my mind. However, still dry mouth no matter what.

Did the researchers use a different compound from the tea? I wonder...

Best wishes,
Maria

I just read about a study where women under the age of 50 who drank 3 cups of tea daily were 37% less likely to develop breast cancer.

And there was also an interesting study where they found that green tea wards off prostrate cancer.  The men given green tea catechins had only a 3% prostate cancer rate versus the 30% prostrate cancer rate in the placebo group which matches the rate in the general population.

I'm glad you posted this.  Thank you!  I randomly decided to buy green tea last week, but then gave the box away after my first cup. I thought I might be drying out my mouth.  Does anyone else feel like it may be drying out their mouth?  Do you think the positives outweigh the dryness?  I do think I am going to stop by the vitamin shop for some green tea extract, though!

Again, thank you!  I love everyone posting research studies.  It gives me great hope when I am feeling down due to this wacky illness.

I use green tea all the time and do not find it dries me out. There are some forms that are extremely low in the tea form of caffeine but still have all the healthy phytochemicals. One is called kukicha (twig tea) which is made from the stems of tea leaves rather than the leaves themselves. It is served both in the plain green form and also in the dry roasted form, which makes a clear beverage that tastes similar to Postum or chicory. I use kukicha as a regular daily beverage with meals.

I highly recommend green tea, and except for the green fingernails, have found no unfortunate side effects. (Just kidding about the nails!) You need to try it for yourself though. If you are going to use green tea, it is well worth getting high quality tea.

i drink quite a bit of green tea, mostly because it helps with weight loss. I like t he idea it could hlep with the Sjogrens syndrome also., besides the fact the tea cost quite a bit less than meds.

Thanks all for sharing

intesting facts about cancer !! its very prevalent on my mum`s side, i drink green tea purely out of liking it but not that much as i too thought its more drying i ll just drink water, but im encouraged by this, might not reverse anything, but might help slow progressive damage, its worth a go !

genko thanks for that advice, i was thinking some ranges will be better than others, currently i am drinking green tea and pomogranite , but its a super market own make and i shall now get to local health food shop and get a good quality tea , I alwas thought it calmed my IBS slightly, but it could be due to drinkign herbal tea and cutting down on the coffee, till now i obnly drink coffee ( which i love from a cafetiere ) once a week as a treat , used to drink gallons to help get some energy, buts its a false ecomony, so its gone

I've been drinking green tea for years, I usually get at least 2 quarts a day in. I dont know if it has effected my symptoms at all, since I've been drinking it since before the sjogren's, but it does have many positive benefits to it. It has a slightly drying quality to it, but when you're done drinking it, you can always get some water, or pop a pilocarpine.

I also drink green tea, and sweeten it with local honey.  It has helped my GERD, where no medication did.  And I have not noticed any excessive mouth dryness, but that could be due to the honey.  I also don't overbrew it -- I set a timer -- because then it gets bitter.

Very interesting article!  Thanks for posting it.
