Enlarged Spleen

Because this is THE best forum in cyperspace, I thought I'd ask for your input.  Three years ago, I was undergoing tests for my stomach when an abdominal ultrasound showed that I had an enlarged spleen. The doctor wasn't the least bit concerned about it (didn't even bring it up in any of my appts.), so I wasn't either.

For the past 9 months, I have been having intermittent stabbing pain under the left breast that takes my breath away and I'm wondering if this could be related to the enlarged spleen. Any thoughts on this?  Any known relationship between autoimmune disorders and an enlarged spleen?

Hi BM, I'm not a medic but I would go and see a specialist in this field and find out why it's enlarged. There are many conditions which cause this...I'd imagine that the pains you're feeling could well be from the enlarged spleen, which could be larger after 3 years.
I'm sure someone with a medical background will comment about this with valuable information.

Hi BonusMom  :)

I agree with Lesley. You need to go and ask about this. I don't know what conditions enlarge the spleen. My daughter's enlarged when she had mono but it went back to normal when the virus ran its course. I haven't read anything specific about SjS and spleens but there's a lot of stuff which says, although it doesn't usually, SjS can affect pretty well any organ in the body. That still doesn't mean it has!

Take care - Scottie  :)

Hi Bonusmom,
Any pain that isn't going away and has become annoying should be reported to your doctor.  It could be any number of things, but it's best to have it checked it out.  If it turns out be nothing, than your mind will be at ease.  If it's the beginning of something, at least you will have caught it early.

Please let us know what you learn.

Hugs, Pooh
