1st Grandson, born 12/4 on his ETA. 9lbs 10 Oz's, 21" 14 3/4" head diam  (BIG BOY)
When we got the call, she was having contractions every 6 min. We had a 2 hour drive, while in route they were 4 min apart. The midwife had an hour drive.

My daughter had ask me if I wanted to catch the baby or help her in the catching. So I packed my Rawlings (Just kidding)

I was seriously in prayer for this occasion as to the safety of mother and child. My daughter , who has become a walking encyclopedia on home birth and all the statistic tried to inform her father and I enough to give us a comfort level of confidence.

This was also a water birth at home. Complete with the local News cast lady and her camera, because home birth with midwives was just recently made legal in the state of Mo. They requested to cover a home birth to the Mid wives of Mo. And my daughter okay-ed it because she is such an advocate of home birth.

So there we were!

Though I was skeptical but supportive, It truly became a wonderful event and will hold a great family memory.

I will never forget watching him make his sudden appearance and the concern I felt as I fish him up into my hands like a big slippery tad pole and into the arms of my much deserving daughter. Her arms wrapped a round him with great joy.

Oh my goodness!  This is one of the most gorgeous babies on the planet!

I would have been a real Nervous Nelly in your shoes!...even though we all know jillions of babies have been born through the centuries in rice patties and slung on their mothers back....etc....

Good on ya Kimbo and your wonderful daughter!  Most of all BLESSINGS on that baby!

Huge congratulations to all...such a big beautiful boy!

In our family he'd be a toddler! Our babes tend to be on the petite side (although some of us have gotten waaay past that!) so, as bright and alert as he is, your fella looks like a three month old to me ;D

Wow! What a big boy! He's gorgeous. He's got just the best grandma as well!  ;)

I think home birth is great. That's where I had my last two and it was much nicer than being in hospital.  Congratulations to you daughter.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Hi Kimbo!

Congratulations!  That's so wonderful for you all.  Welcome to the new little man and well done to everyone.  Tears came to my eyes as I read your description of how you lifted him and how your daughter wrapped her arms around him.  What a blessing!

You must be so proud of your daughter.  I really admire her for doing what she believed in, and for being such an advocate for home birth.  It's not easy to campaign for something when it's so personal.  Like Scottie I too had my last two children at home;  I believe it should be a totally personal choice but I would never want to give birth anywhere else.  Please send her my congratulations and a great big hug.

Thank you so much,

I was very anxious to share the news with my sjoggie family.

Scottie, I remembered that you knew the experience of home birth, it really was a comfort to hear of the positive experiences.

Channa ,  you understand so well also, thru experience.

Thank you all for sharing our joy.

A couple more cute pics.... I just can't resist.

Oh my goodness, what a blessed event... He is really beautiful, congratulations to all.  I was also in tears when I read about wrapping him in her arms... It might be a nice idea to journal these special thoughts, I'm sure you will never forget how you felt, but imagine letting him read exactly how you felt the day he was born...

Kim, he is a big beautiful guy just as the others said!!  Really cute, but i think he looks like he's 6 months old.  Poor baby--people will be expecting him to walk in 3 months.  You'll have great biceps from holding him.   ;D

Wow!!!!

What a beautiful baby, and a real cutie too. It must have been thrilling, lifting the baby out of the water and placing him in his mother's arm. I have a few friends who did home births a few years back. Congrats to you and your daughter.

Congrats on the new grandson! I hadn't realized home birth were just made legal in Mo. a friend of mine had one recently too (in Mo.). I'm not that brave and when it comes time for my little one to enter this world it will be at the hospital.
As a side note I wonder if we live anywhere near each other. Hope you're enjoying the new addition to the family.
