This has probably been written about before, but I couldn't remember where. Tomorrow I am going for a first visit to a Doctor close to me who is a Osteopathic Doctor.

I am tired of my regular doctor I have been going to not sending my rhuemy my test results even after he keeps requesting them.

Also, right now I have a kidney infection , and my husband called to try and get me in, and they wouldn't even return a call to let us know.

This guy is at a clinic basically right out my back door, but what all do they do? I don't know much about them. Are they suppose to be particularly helpful with fibromyalgia? I hope he also knows about sjogren's. I would appreciate any info any of you might have. Have a  nice week.

Susan, my gastro is a D.O. and I absolutely love him.  He has done both of my endoscopies and colonoscopies.  He is gentle, thorough and very informative.  He also knows a lot about Sjogren's and the effects it has on your digestive tract.   Also my rheumy gets all his reports right away and that's makes him very happy. ;D

It sure won't hurt to try this doctor and see how you like him.  You just might find the right one for you.  I'd say give him a chance, what do you have to lose, but a little of your time.

Let us know how you make out with him.

Hi susanep,

I say to "go for it", especially since your regular doc does not seem to be up to par by following through with your other docs.  My best friend sees an osteopath as her primary doc, and she loves him.

You probably already researched it, but if not, here is a link that I found that describes osteopaths (what they do and their credentials).:   http://www.askdrwalker.com/index/What_is_a_doctor_of_osteopathic_.htm

I hope your appointment goes well, and that this new doc is a keeper!

Hi Susan,

I would not use anyone except for a DO. My Primary Dr. and Father-in-law both are DO's. They do more than just what an MD would do. And they look at holistic medicine, as well as joint, backs, necks, etc. They do special classes in school, and each year to be a DO.

I agree, they do think outside the box, they are good at pain therapy, and they do everything else before sending patients to surgeons.I have also found that they do not have tunnel vision. What I mean by that is: they look at many things, and don't just get one idea stuck in their heads, and not treat the entire body. Good Luck, I hope you have a good experience with your DO.

I was very encouraged reading all of your replies. :)

I went today, but the regular doctor wasn't there, because his mother had died. I seen a nurse practitioner there, but my visit went very well. They were so attentive to me. They gave me papers to sign the release of my records from the other doctor, and to also have my rhuematologist exchange info with them.

They also x rayed my foot that has the sharp pains in the side of my heel. They are sending the results back to the rhuemys office.

Got meds for a nasty kidney infection. Had a fever.

I felt good about  my appointment. I just hope it goes that well when the doctor returns.

They felt of my thyroid gland and said it felt enlarged, and ask if I had ever had a scan on it. I said, no. She seemed surprised.

Susan, my GP is an osteopath and he is young, up to date, and willing to listen to me.  DO's I think are more likely to use homeopathic remedies than most docs.  I'm not really into that, cause I want a pill, but to know my doc isn't closed minded means a lot.  One bonus is that he does spinal adjustments and most DO's don't bother anymore.  If I have a sore back or a kink along the way, he can bend me!  I'd rather him do it than a chiropractor.  Lucy

Susanep,
I am glad your appointment went so well. It makes such a difference when you feel like they are listening to you and taking your well being in to account. Good luck with your tests!
