A saga

For some reason 2008 has become a non-stop saga which hit new heights yesterday. Methotrexate induced severe neutropenia (0.3) last week took me off mtx and on lots of folic acid, rheumy said this will be fine as long as you feel well.
Then the throat kicked in, followed by the nose like a tap, which by yesterday heads straight for bronchial tubes, the
cough, the wheeze.  Gp said off to hospital.  Had to wait four hours to see medic.  Blood test showed neutrophil count was now too high.  Lots of antibiotics required.  It is as though my immune system went from being flat to overdrive in a couple
of days.
But, on the way to the hospital my daughter phoned to say she had just seen consultant who said she has a growth on
both ovaries, one of which could be cancer.  At this point, my mobile went dead.  Picked up my husband's.  His promptly
died.  Got to hospital, no phone numbers because they are all on the mobiles which are now both dead.  So, had to
send husband home to ring daughter - who had to see surgeon today.  After horrible night in hospital I signed myself out this morning.  No way was I not going to be at that appointment with her.  Having been told that I had to wait until the doctors' rounds which no-one knew when, I think the nurses took pity on me and let me go with prescription.  So, we now have to wait for scans and blood tests and surgery in two weeks.  Having been through all this earlier this year with my husband's colon cancer, I could scream.
But, the thing that is getting to me most at the moment, is with so many people relying on me for support (not forgetting newly diagnosed deaf grandaughter and all that is entailing on cochlear programme) I NEED TO BE FIT AND STRONG.
Can barely speak this evening with wheeze, cough and dried out voice, so thought I would shout it out at all of you. Please send wonder drug.

Uker,

Here it is straight up...... If you don't take care of yourself, you won't be able to take care of anyone.

My wonder drug of choice from here, is prayer.  And you have mine.

Having said that.....

I am so sorry for what you are going thru and what you have been thru. The journey your on now will not be easy. You are a wonderful mother and my heart and prayers are with you, May you have courage, strength and wisdom. I hope your Rxs help your body as you counsel your daughter. And maybe we will find some good news in the follow up visits.
Please keep us posted

Remember to take care of you. I know theres a lot going on but if you dont take a bit of time out for you there will be no you for the others. I will keep my fingers crossed that your daughter is ok and that things work out for her and your granddaughter too.

Get some hot chicken soup into you. Some vicks on your feet and some rest. I agree hospitals are the worst place to be when you're sick.

I will keep you n my thoughts

Hi Uker  :)

I can hardly imagine you having a worse year. I'm really sorry to hear about your daughter. I hope it's NOT cancer. They can't know for sure till they test it and some tumours are benign.

Kimbo's right. In the middle of this mess you actually have to look out for yourself as well or you won't be able to help your family the way you want to.

Sending thoughts your way and you know we're always here as a cyber shoulder to cry on - to vent to - or whatever.

I hope you feel a bit better in yourself soon.

Olease take care - Scottie  :)

Uker, please take care of yourself.  This is a horrible time for all of us, but you are getting more than your share.  I will send hugs, prayers and good thoughts your way.  I wish I could do more.

Hi Uker,
I hope you take care of yourself first and not feel 'guilty'... sorry... but I can say that because I used to feel like that a lot... I used to do a lot for other people, putting myself last on the list, letting myself go, both health-wise and emotionally...
For me, if I don't feel well or I'm run down and continue on despite my own needs, what I do for others feels more like a burden than something I really want to do... I pray that you take care and stay strong for your family...

Ah but isn't that what is so great - I CAN tell you all how bad I feel and not feel guilty.  Will try to
have a quiet day today to reflect on it all and get some strength back.
And guess what Seabreeze?  I had forgotten to take my Vitamin D!!
Thanks as ever for support.

Hi UKer

Firstly I'm sending you a big cyberhug (I'm wearing a mask though as I don't want any cold germs!).   It would be an understatement to say what a bad year you're having, I can't imagine how you feel.

This may sound harsh - but if you don't look after yourself, no-one else will; and you won't be able to look after others.  Do try to take some time out for yourself, I know from one Mum to to another this will be hard, but please try.

Sending love to you and your family.

Wen x
