Was I the only one to see House tonight?  This episode's ultimate diagnosis was Sjogrens but took the onion to the nose test before I was certain.

Hey chico,

I love House.
I have not started watching it again this year. I missed it, maybe my dish will show it again. I usually DVR it. Well, I will set it in my timer now.

Hi, I watched House tonight too, my favorite show.

As soon as she said that none of the doctors could figure it out I said, "Sjogren's."  I kept saying throughout the show to my other half, partially kiddingly but I told him that I predicted that at some point in the series they would make use of Sjogren's.   As soon as she said dry eyes I said Sjogren's again.  He was really impressed with me (I really just got lucky) when House said "Sjogren's."

What I didn't appreciate though, was that presumably all one would have to do is to take prednisone and artificial tears and everything would be just fine.   In fact as soon as the show was over, I Googled to see if anyone with Sjogren's had watched House to see if anyone reacted the way I did and is how I discovered this forum!

So being a newbie I will be posting my story and will get on with reading and searching through this site.  I'm glad to have found it and looking forward to reading your posts.  - Alice

Hello Chico, welcome to Sjogren's World.

Apparently House was the show to watch tonight, and several members mentioned it in https://sjogrensworld.org/index.php?topic=6852.msg68013#msg68013.

It seems the show has brought us a couple of new members, so we wish to thank FOX! We've met Alice in the Newbie's section (thank you Alice) and, Chico, I'd like to invite you to post a bit more about yourself there, too.

I agree that they downplayed the potential for difficulty in reaching appropriate and helpful treatment, but the theory of the show is "hard to diagnose, easy to treat" so they don't lose any of their patients!

Hi Newbies...

I was disappointed at how House treated Sjogerns.. like "Oh it's no big deal"   I thought the med he said was something BRAND NEW and a 'cure all'.. no such luck.. and if freaking eye drops wound cure all my Sjogern's I'd be dropping drops all day long!!!!!!! LOL

but hey at least Sjogerns was brought into the spotlight last night....

Maybe McDreamy can do surgery on a person who has Sjogerns.. LOL

I'm confused. :-\  Didn't they have an episode last year about Sjogren's?  Or was last night a rerun?  Either way I'm delighted they highlighted Sjogren's.  It's about time someone pushes it out into the public eye.

Hi Chico, welcome to Sjogren's World.

Take care all and have a great day.

Hi.. I, too, watched the episode of House last night. I was stumpted til he mentioned the dry eye, also. My husband and I were watching it together and when he said Sjogren's, we looked at each other. I haven't actually been diagnosed, yet, but I have the dry mouth, eye, etc. and have been told my parotids are swollen. Anyway, have any of you heard of a website called www.hulu.com? You can watch full episodes of your favorite tv shows, movies, etc. I checked it today and they have the last three episodes of House on there. The one from last night isn't on there, yet, but I don't think it takes too long. Check it out. Dale

Being the House junkie I am, I think I know what you're talking about. Season 3, Episode 16, it's an episode about a Marine who is back with "Gulf War Syndrome." At one point they bring up Sjogren's, because he has vaginosis of the mouth, and he's pretty dry, but they dismiss it because he didnt have dry eyes.

I agree with the complaint that the show really down-played Sjogren's and it's effects on the body.  There's already a major misconception about this disease just because there's such an emphasis on the dry eyes and mouth.  It makes the problem seem so minor when we know so well that's only the tip of the iceberg.

Someone posted recently, either here or on another board, that Sjogren's dries out not only the eyes and mouth, but the internal organs as well.  I forgot to ask my RD about this on my last visit.  Does anyone know if this is true?  I haven't found a definitive answer in my research.

Hi Jesse  :)

Sjogren's seems to be able to attack any moisture producing glands. So saying - it does not always do this. It's really important to be aware that it really attacks people differently and that nothing is inevitable.

Some people get lung problems, many don't. Some people get kidney problems but that is pretty rare. Some people have heart problems but that is rare too. being aware of what it can do is a good thing - but worrying that it might do it to you is counterproductive.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Thanks Scottie.  I wasn't concerned that I was doomed to this occurance.  I just wanted clarification of the "dries out the organs" part.  I had never heard of it affecting the body with that description.  But if organs contain the type of moisture that is affected by Sjogren's then I can see how the drying out part might be true.

Thanks Nathan, I'm glad you cleared that up for me.  I'm not a House watcher, but I thought remembered someone telling me that Sjogren's was mentioned in the process of a program a while back.  I think someone posted a thread to that effect.

Of course, you have to remember I have Sjogren's and brain fog is not kind to me most of the time. ::)
