hi all a qestion i have, I saw my neuro a couple of weeks ago, and he told me of nervous system issues and sjs so i pretty much figure that's what he's thinking. He also told ne that usually patients like me he recommends 50 to 70 mg of amitriptyline. But for me that isn't a good idea because of the drying. He suggested plaquenil (treat the sjs treat the neuropathy is his idea) which i am starting on today. But i did go from 10 mg of amitriptyline to 20 mg and i was in heaven for the past couple weeks, now however the dryness is catching up and I am not doing so good. Anybody else using amitriptyline for pain management? How much and how do you cope with the dryness? Thanks Sandra

Sandra,
I don't take Amitriptyline, but I do take Tramadol for pain and it works very well for me, without the dryness.  Talk to your neuro and see if he can prescribe something else that isn't as drying.  There are other meds out there that work just as well without the dryness.  Neurontin is another.

Hi Sandra

I take 25 mgs Amitriptyline, and I can't honestly say I have noticed it making the dryness worse - but then I have to take an antihistamine, and that does dry things up.

A lot what I have read supports what the neuro said.

i found it took a while ( am just a weird exception and for me it took a loooong time) but,  the plaquenil has helped.

I have recently started using the Ultracet and found it quite effective.
