The Perfect Pillow?

Hoping you all can help me with my quest for a perfect pillow.  The SJS so affects our necks and I generally go to bed and wake up sore.  I have been looking for (and buying) pillows to try to find the one most comfortable.  (Going broke doing so!)  I have yet to get that pillow that my head truly relaxes on.  Memory foam is too hard, down filled is too soft.  I have just tried a buckwheat husk pillow and that is too hard.  (I sound like Goldilocks!)

So just wondering if any of you use a pillow that you can't live without and has helped you.  One of these days, I will find one!!!

Thank you so much!

Hi Liz,
Funny you should bring this up.  I just bought another pillow cover for mine.  The original ticking is so discolored from all my sweating that I can't stand the sight of it, but I won't give it up, NO MATTER WHAT!  It's a feather pillow, not down, although there is some mixed in it.  I have had this pillow for about 15 years and I absolutely will not part with it. ;D

I can fold it in half to read, I can turn it lengthwise on edge and curl in around my neck, I can lay it flat and pull it around my neck when sleeping on my side.  It just works for me.

I hope you can find one that you just can't do without either.

Hugs, Pooh

Pillows are such personal things, aren't they? I favour a very flat foam wrapped in fiberfill...the foam on it's own is too hot for me. Once I found the one I like, I thought "there, I can stop spending $$$$ on pillows" only to find that I have to replace it yearly...it gets to a point where it just stops being comfy and a-shopping I go. Just this past weekend I restocked our family cottage with my choice of pillows...let the others bring their favourites for a change! Of course I didn't replace all the existing ones, so everyone should be happy.

Hi Liz,

I use the type of memory foam pillow that supports your neck but I put it on top of my wedge pillow that elevates my upper body (to help the GERD)! I know its kind of weird, but its comfortable for me. I also have other body pillows on the sides of me to prop my arms up on because that feels very comfortable for me. I look like the pillow queen when I go to bed...they are everywhere around me for support and comfort....but it works for me!

Here's hoping you find the "perfect" pillow for you!

hey liz and all,

I have always favored shredded foam, because it holds support better than feather.
I made my own ; I found regular shredded foam and also could you believe it I found shredded memory foam at hobby lobby. So I mixed the two, and stuffed me up two big pillows. What I like is that I can push it around into a shape to support my neck. I try to stretch my neck over in a way that keeps me from kinking up my neck at night.

pillow talk!  I like this.

It is now 12:38am -  way past hit the pillow time, when I need to get up and go to work in the morning.

And now, no one will ever want to here me complain about feeling fatigued at work.

I better go take my half an ambien.

I fight the pillow war too and so far a memory foam pillow my son gave me for Christmas is working the best.  Making your own out of shredded memory foam sounds like and interesting idea. I think I may need to make a trip to Hobby Lobby and get to sewing!

I have a memory foam orthopaedic pillow that supports my neck. i wouldnt be wiothout it. I can adjust the hright of it with inserts f need to.

You can also get different types of memory foam in soft medium and firm as well. I got my from my physio's office. i also have a latex orthopaedic pillow and occasionally swap between the two to give the other one a rest and let it get its shape back.

Hi  :)

I have a memory foam pillow I like and a memory foam pillow that was bought for me that I don't like. One is a lot harder than the other. They both say memory foam but they feel completely different.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Hello everyone . . . . I have a brochure that I got from a worker's comp. doctor for a pillow for your neck.  It's called The Original McKenzie Cervical Roll.  I haven't used this pillow myself, but it looks like it might be comfortable (they had a picture in the brochure).  They have a website:  www.optp.com  where you can check it out.

This same company has a Lumbar Roll that the doctor gave me for free that I have tried and I really like it.  Makes my back feel good.  :)

Me again . . . I just went to the website I listed . . guess I should have checked it out first before posting . . lol.  The cervical roll is something that you place inside your pillow case along with any pillow (I thought from the picture on the brochure that it was a "pillow" like a kind you would buy in the store).  The round roll is what supports your neck when laying on your back or side.  Wonder if any piece of round foam would do that or if it's made of some "special" material or firmness??  Just a thought.  :)
