I am on Plaquenil and Prednisone and I wanted to know if you get bruises more easily with these meds, or if they take longer to heal when on them?

I have had a really bad bruise on my leg for a week and a half, which is alot better today but still there.  So it took a long time to heal and was really bad for just hitting my leg on a chair.

And I had blood taken last Wed. afternoon and I have a bad bruise from it, still really blue and red, there wierd thing there is it is higher than where she took the blood from ( a little).  So anyway it seems I am taking a long time to heal now?

Freifamily,
I've been on Plaquenil since January and haven't noticed bruising any worse than normal.  As far as Prednisone, I don't take that, but I'm sure someone else will be able to shed light on that.
I would suggest you see your doctor and request some blood work to investigate the bruising.
I've gotten some bad bruises from having blood tests - it seems to me that it is the person taking the blood that really makes the difference in the bruising.  Other times, there is no bruise at all.
Good luck in your search for some answers.  No doubt our Sjogren's family will be of assistance!

By all means, see your doctor. It could be as simple as not enough vitamin C or it could be very serious.

I too suffer from bruises which take much longer to heal, not sure if this is SJS but they have been much more noticeable.  I also bruise very easily, I have had tests and nothing has shown up.  My Doc just said that I am delicate  :)  This is really helpful as I am quite clumsy.  Even when my husband takes my arm I can end up with bruise marks in the shape of fingers, he really isn't grabbing me.  He feels bad as he would never want to hurt me.

If the bruising worsens and you have any pain with them, please call your doctor.  However, bruises sort of go along with the meds you are on.

Some people don't bruise and some do.  I'm one of the ones that do, so perhaps you are too.

I still have the bruises from my blood work last week and the IV that was in on Wednesday of last week.  It just takes us Sjoggie's a little longer to heal with everything, including bruises.

Take care,
