Hello there.  I was wondering what everyone's RF or RA titer is?  Mine has been very high 1090 and now 1150 (normal being below 20).  Do most people with SS have a very high titer?  --Jenn G.

Hi Jenn  :)

Welcome to Sjogren's world. I can't answer your question but just wanted to say hello and assure you someone will come along with an answer. None of my blood tests have ever been very high for anything - just high enough to get a dx with symptoms taken into account. Since being on Plaquenil my bloods have returned to pretty well normal.

Take care - Scottie  :)

Mine came back at 22 with "normal" being <15 IU/mL.  I've only been tested once a couple months ago and will be curious to see how it comes back after a while on Plaquenil.  My head and neck surgeon was horrified by this test result saying he thought it meant I have the Arthritis and my Rheumatologist said to expect I might come down with Rheum. Arthritis in the future.

From what I've read I think I have a 50/50 chance of not developing RA.  Apparently positive RA factor is common with SjS.  Yours, however looks astoundingly high if on the same scale as my test.  I can see why you would like to know.

Hi Jenn,

Sorry, I'm one of the sero negative crowd here...but RA does run in the family so I wonder if I will develop it down the line?

Thanks for all the responses.  I've been having a hard time finding information on high titers in Sjogren's.  There is plenty of info on it for RA.  I really do not want to develop that as well.  Have way too many autoimmune diseases as is!  --Jenn G.

Jenn,

I've been so curious about this.

When you find out, will you post it?

I have ABSOLUTELY NO medical training but it seems this astronomical result would be an indicator of an additional autoimmune.

I see you mention you have others....maybe this result is reflecting one of those?

I'm not sure that the actual number reflects the severity of disease. My titer ranges from 1:640 to 1:2560 (n=<1:40), and the RF count ranges from 188 to over 2000 (n=<43), and none of those results seem to bear any relationship to the symptoms I'm feeling at the time.

Bear in mind that different labs have different ranges as well, so if the report you are looking at doesn't include normal ranges, you can't necessarily use normals you find in texts or posted on line.
