HELP!!!!!
I've been naughty and haven't done the usual daily eye washing because of the move I just went thru. I've washed the last two days (and soaked with lot compresses) yet no improvement. So yes maybe I'm impatient but it's really messing me up at work!!! Its been going on for a week and no it's not just the usual left eye it's both. I have some eye medication at home but since they told me it's a steroid I'm afraid to use it cause my sleep is the first thing to go when I react to food or medication..........thoughts??????????

Cheryl

Kathylee,
I'm sorry about the trouble you are having.   It may be that the drops you already have are exactly what you need right now, but why don't you check with the doctor first.   You only get one pair of eyes.   I hope you get relief soon!

Cherly,
You are absolutely right......I'm trying my antibiotic first. Haven't had a chance to discuss this here but I discovered by accident that when I take the drug Biaxin I feel virtually cured!! When I called the drug company (abott labs) they knew exactly what I was talking about. Then I did more research and found a doctor that is part of the "antibiotic cure' movement (THE Roadback Foundation) that uses Biaxin as well as minocin. Since I had to go on it briefly whhen I moved and now I'm off it I guess that was why I forgot to wash my eyes....cause they were fine! I don't have a permanent presciptio for this stuff and have asked 2 rheumatologists so far and am seeing a 3rd may 28th! This drug could mean I could work full time! I get tht much better.
I'm at work and and making mistakes from the severe blurring so I guess I just needed to complain....thanks so much

kathylee, You may also have an infection in your eyes. You said that you had a steroid eye drop on hand. That is a No-no during eye infections because it can make infections worse.

You may need to see a doctor for this---sometimes they have to culture eye drainage also. Eyes can have infections without having the really thick, green gross drainage. Irish ;D

Sorry I've not updated this thread......I guess I've been in some shock. I finally got to my university docs...an eye specialist and he immediately said oh yes you have a major cataract...the kind that does comes on fast.( encapsulated.. something) it must have just moved over the front. If you don't have it taken out you will be blind in that eye in a year. Getting diagnosed correctly is a blessing BUT at times scary too. I think I wrote about this elsewhere...sorry if I'm repeating myself. Since I'm so medication sensitive I don't have a clue how to deal with all the drugs around this. I'm doing research. Certainly also there's the trauma associated to the surgery...I seriously don't think I can take anything more :'( :'( :'(. I've started crying or being on the edge of crying again at nite when I get home from work. But my vision is really affecting my ability to work and drive......

Skylar

Hi Kathylee, I think it's wonderful that this cataract was caught early and they can operate. Of course it's not so wonderful that you developed a cataract and need eye surgery  :'(

Antibiotics are not always prescribed for an infection - they are also prescribed because they have an anti-inflammatory effect. It's often used to treat rosacea, either topical and/or oral antibiotics are used specifically for their anti-inflammatory properties.

I agree with all the others, but I'd like to add " why don't you get a second opinion on the cataract and suggested surgery?"  I mean with an ophthalmologist NOT affiliated with your current doctor's practice.  Sometimes we forget to get second opinions, but I think it's almost always a good idea.  Good luck.  Lucy

irish

kathy, Good luck with whatever you do, whether you have the eye surgery or decided to get a second opinion as was expressed above. It is good that you have a good eye doc that caught this so soon. Boy, I did not know that they can develop so fast. Irish ;D

Actually this was my THIRD opinion! And the one I trust. My main doctor is at the University Hospital. After having this old f--t at my local docs office "pat me on the hand and say live with it.." He did not believe a word I said! Argued with me and said noway did it just come on. He was the only guy available on short notice at my regular eye docs practice. The doctor at the university is a senior staff, a teacher and cornea specialist. I was so relieved that I got him. Also a student saw me first and worked me up the whazoo so I guess that makes it four opinions. As of today I'm pushing to see the neurologist ASAP to ruleout myasthenia gravis since THAT could be the explaination for soem of my drug sensitivity.
Thanks you all for you thoughts.........

YICKelly

Sending prayers that they can find something to help that does not do more harm than good.  Do you have any dates set for the surgery?

Patze

Kathylee,

Excellent, you are so lucky!  Wow, a cornea specialist too!  Has the doctor given you a time line on what he plans on doing?

Oh, I'll keep the fingers crossed that you get a good neuro soonest; will you be using one from the university?

Take care and keep us updated!
