Scottietottie

Hi,
I have high cholesterol. I've had it for years. I have now tried three different kinds of statins and I simply can't tolerate them. They make me really hurt - all over.

I saw my GP on Monday and he referred me to a 'Lipid Clinic'. Well - here in the UK I didn't expect to hear from them for ages. However - a Consultant phoned yesterday. She asked some basic questions and told me there were medication options - not statins - that I could try - either pills or injections. I said I would try pills. Then I told her I think it must be a family thing as my two oldest children both have high cholesterol too.

In that case - I think you should get injections, she said. You have cerebellar vascular disease ( nobody has told me this before) - we will teach you how to inject yourself. She then arranged for me to go to her clinic next week. In the UK .... that is a quick appointment.

Take care - Scottie.  :)

I'm sorry you're having this extra worry.  However I am also in the UK, and think it is wonderful that you are being seen and helped so quickly!   I can hardly get through to my GP on the phone, never mind get any medical advice.   Last time I tried, they even said the phone queue was full!

It's true high cholesterol can run in families, and I'm guessing you've tried all the more conservative measures already, like adjusting your diet and lifestyle.

I hope the treatment works well and is manageable.
Dry eyes (MGD), nose, mouth, occasional labyrinthitis,  dry skin , mouth ulcers, constant but fluctuating fatigue, IBS.  Blood tests and Schirmers negative,no Sjogrens dx yet.   Omega 3 algal oil, multivitamins, Evolve eye drops, Xailin eye ointment,  moisturiser (Instituto Espanol 10% urea).

Sorry to hear this Scottie. Also, there is an old drug from 60s or 70s that I remember giving called Question. I think this is the correct name. It was the first drug used for high cholesterol. It is a powder and  mix it with fruit juice and it makes the colon get rid of the high cholesterol thru the bowels.

I have taken it in a different name for my colon issues and I think it has helped keep my cholesterol down also. I took the statins for 13 years and then quit and will not take them again. This powder may be worth taking and maybe taking it plus the pill will keep you from taking the stronger injection. Just a thot and may worth checking out. I think the powder is taken 3 times a day. I took it 2 times a day for my colon issues. I think it might have helped me lose a few pounds also.

I have to take a stool softener with it at times as it will cause constipation. I do think it depends on what I eat also that goes along with this. Good luck. meirish
